I've read that recruits with PIR date of Dec 31st and Jan 8th will be allowed to be in the adopt a sailor program. All other recruits will have to stay on base and have a regular day with a special Christmas dinner on base.

Thanks rgmac4! I'm trying to make a trip to Chicago to see my daughter but I don't want to go and then can't see her for any restriction.

My son is only in his second week andhis  recruiter told me he will have normal day and maybe extra special dinner. I was very sad that I would not even be able to talk to him,but this is life he chose so I am going to pray for him and light a blue candle. This Christmas is going to be sad for our whole family including our cat who keeps looking for his friend (my SR)

What is Adopt-A-Sailor
The Adopt-A-Sailor program is for the next two TG's after Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are able to leave the RTC and share the day with family or one of the adopting organizations in the area. The TG's that are eligible for the Thanksgiving Adopt-A-Sailor are those with PIR on 12/01/2017 and 12/08/2017. Those that will be eligible for the Christmas Adopt-A-Sailor program are those who will have PIR on 01/05/2018.

Christmas Day for those not in the 12/31/2015 or 01/08/2016 TG's will include holiday routine and the opportunity to attend Chapel and a nice meal and usually relaxed rules during that meal so that the recruits will be able to socialize a bit.

Hello lemonelephant, I have a question. My daughter has been in FIT, now she's in RCU, second face now, with tendonitis in both knees. How longest time she could be in RCU? And if the Navy could send her to Seps if she doesn't get well enough after face 4, to do her run before to go to the A school? I'm so worry they will send her on medical leave!! She suppose to be in nook since 12/11, but because of her knee problems, she had to stay. Please let me know if you have any info. Tia

My friend broke his leg during boot camp, and they held him for eight weeks, until he was healed.  Unfortunately, because each individual heals at different rates, there is no hard and fast timeline.  Yes, there is a chance she could be separated, but she can heal up from tendonitis with rest, so maybe they will keep her.  After all, they have invested a lot in her future as a sailor so far.  Best wishes to her!
