For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Items needed in Charleston?
Hi, my son's PIR is 1-8-16 and then he's off to Charleston for Nuke school. Can any of you ladies give me an idea what he might need while he's there, if anything? Will he need a laptop for school, etc. Thanks!

Pooh'sMom - Yes it goes A school, Power School and then Prototype. Take a look at the pages on the main nuke page - to the right under member profiles.
"Your Sailor's Schedule Upon Arrival to GC" will give you an idea of how long each school is. Prototype can take the longest as there can be delays with the reactor. My son did proto in Ballston Spa, NY and he was there 1 year....part of it was waiting for classes to start & then part was issues with the reactor. His grad date was changed 3 times!

My son will be leaving for Goose Creek on January 9th. I planned to take his laptop, phone and Ipad to him at the airport. I saw the list of items one mother said her recruit wanted and got concerned that I may need to rapidly buy these things and ship them but that list is 3 years old so I thought things may have changed. Two questions if anyone can answer them; can they have a car at A school and if so how soon after arriving? Does he need to buy an ironing board as well as an iron and should it be full size or one of the small portable kind?

I just brought my son his phone and MacBook. I never got him an iron, it was my understanding one was supplied. He got his car I thin within a month of aeiving. I did send him his civvies, in the box that he sent home from BC, LOL. He said he got PTSD seeing it. Both my boys have pretty much taken care of themselves. They buy all their own plane tickets, one takes care of his own auto insurance and registration. I did get him a basic kitchen gear box for power school graduation.

Thanks for the information. I was just telling my SR's girlfriend that in my mind he's just in college, and I need to get these things for him. I have to remind myself that he's an adult, and can get all of these items on his own. Together with his girlfriend, we are going to go through his civies and determine with him on FaceTime what he would like for us to send. It should be a fun time to spend with her and have him on the phone too. -

My son's PIR is 1/22/16 and then he heads to Charleston, too. Any helpful info would be greatly appreciated.
