Hello everyone, My son left for Great Lakes Yesterday - overwhelming emotions....I am sure you all understand. I did very well until it was time for him to board his flight, he looked at me and said "Are you ready Mom?".....all I could do was shake my head "no" and hold on to him for dear life for another minute. Then.....he was gone.

Everyone looks at me like I've over reacted to this. Probably only you fellow moms will understand what I am about to say. That last hug.......was the last hug of my little boy. The next hug.....will be a man - a sailor. Yes he will always be my baby - all of my boys will. But this was a profound moment in our lives.....as I sent my little boy off to become a man.

As a Navy brat, former military wife and now....Navy mom - There are no words to describe the bursting pride I have....

Ok - enough of that. As I sit here at work tearing up. I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself - I am sure will be here often - as you are quite possibly - the ONLY people who understand the flood of conflicting emotions that I have. Thanks for listening!

Hey there my son left Wednesday night so I am right there with you on all the emotions... When I got the last call it bout did me in but so proud of these young men and the journey they are about to endure...Glad to have other moms that have all the same feelings and emotions I have...

Hi NYNavy Mom,  my son left on Monday and arrived at Great Lakes on Tuesday, it was very hard watching him walk away knowing that I won't see him for weeks, just the thought of that brings tears to my eyes.  I received his box today and as I opened it to get his dirty clothes out of the box, again the tears flowed.  I'm sure this has to get easier......right?

Is it possible to accompany him on flight to Great Lakes?

No - but they gave me passes to go thru security and wait at his gate until it was time for his flight.
