Ok...the "day" is closing in.  He leaves Feb 9 and I'm really getting scared!  I've been with Adam for 8 years and I've never been away from him this long.  He's usually the one to calm me down because I'm the planner and the worry-wart.  Is there anything we should do before he leaves?? I've got the power of attorney finishing up this weekend...is there anything else?  I'm terrified!!  I know he's wanted to do this for a long time, but I'm freaking out a little...I'm sure it normal, but still....help?

This is from the boot camp group, there's a ton of good stuff there.  Memorize his SSN!

This group will help you out tremendously. You will definitely need to rely on your friends and family... and making even more new friends through groups or anything just to make the time go by faster.  Its just the start to it, and they say it gets easier but it doesnt. You just learn different ways to cope with it. Good luck to you!

Hi Tricia! I can relate to your feelings. My husband leaves in 2 wks and this will be the first time our family will be apart for months at a time. My son is so confused. I already can't wait for boot and job training to be over with so we can be home together again and he hasn't even left yet! I lined up a pretty busy schedule for us at home while he is away so that we can keep ourselves occupied. I keep thinking of the big picture!

I'm wondering how you got the power of attorney? We were told it wasn't necessary to get one so we never looked into it. Should we?

Honestly, I called the court and filled it out online.  Printed it out and got it notarized at the library.  I read that this is something you should always do.

Hey Tricia

I am the same way I have not been away from my husband in almost 3 years so it will be very hard. I am looking forward for the support as me and our 3 year old daughter will miss him.

Hey Tricia,

My husband left on the 9th as well. I find myself ok during the day but at night I am lost. I cant wait to know when his PIR is so that way I can have a date to look forward to!

Hope your doing well

Jess

I know...I haven't slept well a single night since he's been gone...even with zquil I can't sleep!

This isn't something to do before (sorry I'm late), but make sure to photocopy anything you send to him if you want to keepsake it. They do not have space for everything in their rack, and at some point he will forced to throw them out because he either needs to pass an inspection or just failed one.

Also, if you're writing every day while waiting for his address (which I recommend for dealing with the separation and for a great surprise for him), it saves money to send them in one parcel. Your recruit can receive large parcels, but anything big will have to be opened in front of the chief. Don't send anything but letters, a small address book, and small photos, unless he specifically asks you for something else. They cannot have food or special toiletries or even medications/contacts (that will all be reissued to them during in processing). They say they have a zero tolerance policy for profanity, pornography, or references to drugs/alcohol/violence/intolerance/etc. even if it's legal, they're of age, it's common practice, whatever. They're not going to look for these things, and the RDCs have a pretty impressive vocabulary themselves. I doubt it will ever be an issue for you, but just so you're aware when sending anything.

I did....I just sent him out 8 letters today.  I got his letter in the mail yesterday, and he's already got another letter set to go out tomorrow.  He'll never want for mail.  I sent a few pictures of me and my daughter, like her dressed up for valentines day.  Of all things, when he left he was worried about me being alone for Valentines day.  He's so cute.

My husband leaves in Two weeks and I am now have that gut feeling of fear. Before it was nothing but now that he has the letter stating he is going, its hammer time. LOL I am going to try and keep my job as long as I can before we have to move in a few months as I make good money.
