New Navy wife still trying to figure out the logistics of everything. I am understanding that wives get ID cards also, when does that happen. Husband is still in bootcamp... Just was wondering. Thanks to anyone who may have an answer!

You'll get a form that he'll send you from boot camp, usually in the last half or later. It has instructions on it for obtaining an ID. You can get it from any place that issues ID's, doesn't have to be navy. You can even make an appointment online (recommended since they can be busy). The form should tell you everything you need to know on how to do it.

My husband is also in Boot Camp right now and I got mine done last week. My husband didn't send me any info about it. I talked to his reciter and he helped me get in touch with the ID facility near me. You can look it up online. NOT EVERY FACILITY DOES NAVY ID'S. I didn't know that and I accidentally went to an Army one and I got turned away. When you go bring your marriage certificate, his social security # (not card just #) and your drivers license or passport.

Not true, any card facility can do any ID. I don't know why you got turned away, but you can go to any card issuance facility. They service all branches because they have people from all branches at most bases at any given time. The IDs are basically the same anyway except that it lists your branch. I got mine done at an Army base with no difficulty.

You must have either the form 1172 sent from your husband at boot camp, a power of attorney, or your husband physically with you.

Look at this link to find the nearest card issuance facility near you: https://rapids-appointments.dmdc.osd.mil/%28S%2805n5pqao5euc01oaodj...

From the RAPIDS website:

"DEERS TRANSACTIONS:

ALL DEERS transactions require the SPONSOR to be present or an ORIGINAL/VALID POA. SPONSORS can provide a signed & verified DD 1172-2 in advance which will be valid for 90 days from date of verification"
I got the form from my husband about 2 weeks after he left and all I did was go on base, got a visitor pass so I can go in all I showed was the form and my id and hen just went to building for IDs, I walked in did not have an appointment but it was fairly fast! You get your id right there.
Thanks everyone!!
My dad said I got a letter on Friday but I'm not home to read it so I am thinking that the ID paper is probably what I got, not a personal letter. Thanks so much for the info!
