Hey y'all,

I've heard some really mixed reviews of getting married in A school. I've read the happy endings and the ugly breakups. Within the Navy community, many seem to be understanding and supportive of such a decision, not so much on other sites. What worked for you? What pushed you to either get married or not get married during A School? And if its not too much prying, how long had you guys been together before then?

Thanks so much!

Me and my husband got married last year and he just shipped off to boot camp. It was a court house wedding. We are getting married again later this year in our church to have a proper wedding as it's important to us and our faith. Do what you feel in your heart don't let anyone or anything pressure you. Do it for love and that's it

Thanks so much! Best of luck to you! Do you mind me asking how long you two were together before you got married?

My husband and I got married 7 months ago and he recently left to bootcamp 3 weeks ago. I agree with Michael, do it for love. Usually marriages fall through when people get married for the wrong reasons or rush into it just because you will be separated.
My husband and I were together for a little over 6 years before we got married

Thank you for the advice! Best of luck making it through bootcamp!

My husband and I were together for a little over a year before we got married. We were planning on getting married in October of 2012 but his instructors told him if we were not married by the time he finished A school I wouldn't be on his orders, he could get sent iverseas unaccompanied, etc. So it kind of freaked us out because it was different than what we had been told all along - his rate required 2 years of school so after A school he had C school, which is what we based our timeline off of and then when we got that other information we pushed our wedding date up to Dec. 2011. I don't regret it - either way I'm married to my best friend. We got married during his holiday stand down, so we got to go home and get married on the beach with most of our family and some friends there, but I do regret that because of the ahort notice and being so close to the holidays, a lot of my family and friends from out of state weren't able to be there like we had originally planned. Basically, during A school the instructors are going to tell your boyfriend not to get to married and they are going to tell him all the horror stories to scare him away. But there are plenty of couples who are happy and have succesaful marriages who got married in A school too. As the other girls have said, you just have to do what feels right to you. But rushing into getting married because you feel pressure for whatever reason is NOT a good enough reason to get married - my husband and I were going to get married anyway, we just pushed the date up. But don't let anyone make you feel pressured about getting married because of the benefits/being on his orders/having your move paid for/you're worried about long distance.

Thank you sooo much for this! My boyfriend and I have been together a little over a year and he just recently left for bootcamp. He'll be in A school starting in May and will be there for a good 6 months ish before he graduates from there, 2 years in and surviving bootcamp and more distance I thought it was something I ought to ask about. This helps so much! Best of luck!
