My son left on 3/15; I was the only Navy mom at MEPS for the 8 recruits leaving that day. Your son/daughter may have gotten a "good luck/so proud of you/thank you" send off :)
"The Box" arrived, as promised. I knew what he had with him, or so I thought. At the bottom of the box was an envelope addressed simply to "MOM". With an upcoming birthday, I was mildly surprised (he is not known for sending cards). A heartfelt card, instead of a corny joke, signed with the lines from his favorite childhood book, Love You Forever, brought this very proud mama to tears. Darn kids.
Can't wait to see him at PIR!!

My son left the same day. I too, was the only Navy mom there. Most of the kids leaving were Army with a few Air Force and Coast Guard mixed in. There was overall a big group shipping out that day. It would have been nice for my son to travel to GL with someone but he made the best of it begin all alone. What Ship/Div. is your son in? What is his PIR date? My son is Ship 6 Div 178. His PIR date is May 6th. I got my first phone call yesterday.. So far so good. I was very excited to hear from him..
2 Phone calls.. You are lucky! I have only had one phone call so far. That is great that you SR had a short commute. My son came from Mass. He got to the O'Hare around 2pm and was picked up from the airport to go to GL around 5:30-6:00pm if I remember correctly. I am not sure how long he had to wait once he got to GL before he could start processing. My son said his group failed their first inspection also. It is learning experience for the all. He passed his personal inspection so that was good at least. But now they all know what to expect and hopefully the divisions or ships pass their inspections from here on out. I am not sure how they divide the divisions or who they decide goes where. My son got put into a push division so that is why his graduation date is a little earlier.. My son is an RP. They have him working every Friday and Sunday so he unfortunately does not get much free time. He is enjoying it though so no complaints. Does your SR go somewhere else for A school or is he staying in GL? My son has to go to South Carolina for "A" school then North Carolina for "C" school. He still has a lot of school/training ahead of him once he completes boot camp.
Really! We will def. have to swap some stories.. When did your SR leave?
That is great that he was able to get into something he is really going to enjoy! I wish your SR the best of luck!
Brenda sorry to hear you missed the call. I almost did not answer the phone when my son called because I did not recognize the number. Thank god I did ! I am sure he will get your letter very soon. My letter did not get to my son for about a week and a half after I sent it. I know they do go through all the letters and packages before our SR get them so that can delay them getting our letters.. Hopefully your son will be able to make another call and you can talk to him soon..
