My son & his roommate live in Midtown @ Town Center apartments in VA Beach.  They've been there since February.  No complaints yet!

Those look really nice, if only we could afford to live there!

Hi Brittany, we have lived in Virginia Beach for a year but are now moving to Chesapeake - Greenbrier area. We were really disappointed with Virginia Beach, it's really hyped up and expensive. Greenbrier is much safer in my opinion and less touristy. Schools seem to be better (we don't have kids yet but better schools usually mean better neighborhoods!). We also looked in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake but ultimately settled on Greenbrier because it's more central to the highways, to shopping, entertainment, etc. For us personally we are getting much more for our money in Chesapeake than in Virginia Beach.

My husband was stationed in Norfolk for a year before I moved out here but that's because he got here and deployed immediately (within the month). It was smarter for me to stay where I was because I had a job, friends, a great support system, and it was his last duty station so I was still near lots of military resources should I need them. I would have moved immediately if he didn't deploy right away though.

We're moving to Norfolk in 2 months, I was going to ask the same questions but you beat me to it.

My son and daughter in law, bought a small home in Chesapeake...Renting in a decent neighborhood for a year, it was impossible for them to save any money...rent was over 1000.00 for a one bedroom. They had a great agent that helped them calm all fears about buying...21 and a homeowner...so proud of him. Anyway, maybe checking out the buying option may be a good thing.
