I attended my sailor's PIR in November of 2014, but I flew from Phoenix . Not sure how many states have toll roads between here and there, but Illinois does. Take change as some of them are not staffed .The ones that are will give you change from your bills,as none of them are round dollar amounts.
I don't have any advice beyond that, but since no one else had replied yet, wanted to be neighborly and at least give you what little I know as far as driving .Safe trip !

Thanks for the info.  He left on the 19th, but no letter yet. So I have no idea what about divisions or anything yet.

Hope you get the letter soon. Seems a little easier once you have thosed details. Then you are able to join his PIR group and have all that support .

Hi Gsmom, just wanted to reach out to you because I am from AZ too. My daughter is signing up this following Tuesday.  I have driven to Chicago area before took a couple days.  There are a lot of tolls so take change.  A GPS would be great if you have one, if not the atlas or maps will work.  Good Luck and safe travels.

we flew in 2013, then again in July this year we will fly again.. I am not brave enough to drive it haha

So funny!! I am afraid to fly!!

its an easy flight, we did it in Jan with tons of snow so landing was scary.. I just could not stand to be in car that long

Gsmom, I'm driving from AZ too due to being afraid to fly. I'm renting a car and getting a pass plate for the Toll charges, I am allowing an extra day in case of any troubles I may have! I was going to take Amtrak but reviews were not good and could be delayed.

when do your loved ones graduate?

Mine graduates May 20th!

wow soon, my daughter leaves on May 18th

Wow, How is she doing with time so near? I know my son kept counting down the days and when the day finally came lol he drove to the recruiting office and I was the passenger and he went in a big circle around our small town to get there and I said to him are we taking a tour and he laughed and said yes I want one last look!! I am til this day so emotional when I read others post and when the letters get here... sorry so long winded!!
