OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

After PIR

Do all Nuke's depart from Midway when traveling to GC after their PIR? Trying to plan our trip for graduation and being from the West.. it is easier for us to fly in and out of O'Hare.. but we want to see our sailor off before departing.... Is their departure time typically a certain time of day? Thank you.

They fly out of both O'Hare and Midway. Seems like more fly from O'Hare most of the time though. Your sailor will typically find out where and when they are flying a day or two prior to PIR. Everyone gets to the airport around zero-dark-thirty, and flights can be scheduled any time during the day. The nukes likely will not all be on the same flight. Some in our son's group flew out early morning, but his flight was scheduled at 4:30pm, got delayed until 7:30, spent the night in Atlanta, and eventually got to Goose Creek late Sunday afternoon

Even if your sailor flies out of O'Hare, if you schedule a late flight for yourself out of Midway you will get to spend some time with him before catching your flight back. You can drive from O'Hare to Midway in less than an hour.

My daughter flew out of O'Hare later in the afternoon, but there are no set times or airports and your Sailor may not know until PIR.

We thought that our sailor would leave from O'Hare, but not so. He said he arrived at the airport after midnight and his departure happened to be after ours which was at O'Hare. We had to say our "good-byes" even before he went to his gate, but still had about an hour with him. Fortunately, he was headed to our home state......I think he was able to see his sister the next day after unpacking. We are looking forward to his soon graduation from PS!!!! Then where.....we don't know yet.

You will love PIR.....just seeing all the sailors bought tears to my eyes.....we had an awesome time.

I am from West too. My son is not sportsman type. I was worrying if he would go to FIT program. So Southwest was only answer to me, because of their transferable tickets policy. Luckily he made PIR day on time.

Future Nukes were leaving from Midway early morning on Saturday, I just went to Midway to give his PC, phone, and iPad at 2 am, then said goodbye. I went back to hotel to get some sleep. So if you are not leaving on Saturday, airport would not be problem at all.

my son's PIR is 5/27 (a busy weekend to fly) and we're on the west coast so I chose to use Southwest. it's easier to change the flight if there is a change in his PIR. But that means we're flying in and out of Midway. I think by flying out Sunday, we'll be able to spend time with him until he leaves at some point Friday night/Saturday, with time to spare.

But then again we make plans and God laughs...

My son PIR's 5/13 so I can see the light at the end of the tunnel:) Would love a letter or a call but I know mine is finishing up "hell week" and he is probably focused on BS.
So I may just have to wait till the "I'm a sailor call"

Hi ED's Mom... How is your son doing? I told my son (in div 213) the usernames of some of the moms I have talked to... Is your screen name the initials of your son? He said he has a friend with those initials... I'm being vague on here... But I sent you a friend request so we can chat through the inbox... My son said there are 5 other nukes in their division...
