Hi there, my son's PIR is Aug. 5, after which he will be heading to Goose Creek. Does anyone happen to have a good list of items he will need one he gets there? I know he needs things like sheets, an ironing board, etc. But can they have their own blankets? What else does he need?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

He will be given sheets and an ironing board. He can have his own blanket. It's best to wait and see what he needs and then send it to him because he will already have a lot to carry at the airport. My SO wanted some comforts from home and then civilian clothes once he phased up. Anything else like food I later sent in care packages. He will have the basics to live and pass inspections as soon as he gets there, anything else such as calculator, school supplies, alarm clock, etc. can be bought easily on base and home comforts can either be sent by family members or repurchased. Hope this helps!
I happen to be on the phone with my sailor right now. She says they will give him blankets but they're not great. She wanted her own stuff from home. After she got settled she sent me a list of things that she wanted (including clothes for after she phased up) and I sent a huge UPS package to her.
They'll have to lug it back - and maybe even upstairs! My son's room was upstairs. I only sent the USPS "if it fits it ships" boxes so they weren't too big to carry. Maybe a friend could help out....
Thanks everyone for the replies! Greatly appreciate it.
Sprite09 - If you look down a few discussions - I think it's about 9 down - you'll see one posted by Queenjailyle called "A Sailors Needs for A School". It has a good list of items your sailor might want when they arrive!
Great! I'll take a look. Thanks for the assistance!
My daughter wanted basic flatware so she could eat in her room. Walmart has a set for $0.88 or something silly. She also wanted a drinking glass and toilet paper.
Kimberly - I bumped the discussion "A Sailor's Needs for A School". When you look at the home page now it will be the 2nd discussion behind this one. Some good things are listed there!
