Introduce yourself, we are getting so big! I can't keep up. As short or long as you'd like. I want to learn everyone's names and find out about your sailors - where they are going, what SHIP they are on, on base or on the seas, and what you hope to get out of this.

Hey, I'm Tammy and my son's name is Brandon. He is 24, and he had planned on becoming an xray tech. He has done all his core classes in tech school, and was basically ready for the xray program. But he thought about it, and wasn't sure that is what he wanted to do. His Dad is an electronic tech in the civilian world, and has never been in the military. Brandon worked with his Dad for a few years, so he does know a little about the electronics. He decided to go into the Navy, after his best friend was discharged after completing his elistment time in April. Chad, best friend, really did well while in the Navy. He grew up, married, and is doing well in NJ. He was like another son to me, and we all really miss him. Chad tried to encourage Brandon to go in the whole time he was in enlisted, but he wouldn't. Now, he has decided that this will be the best for his future. I am very proud of him in making this decision. He and I are both anxious about his decision, but I am continously encouraging him that he is making the right decision. He is scheduled to leave for BC 12-9-08. He is scheduled to go in as an electronic tech, and be on a sub at this time. I really don't know any other details, except he has mentioned Conn, Pensacola, and Kings Bay. We are not very smart about this, and worried at times that the recruiter is not telling us everything. I hope to be able to get a lot of knowledge from this group and support. I do believe that this will be a great way to communicate and meet friends from all over.

Hi Tammy, glad that you have found this site before Brandon leaves for bootcamp. There is so much support and knowledge here to help a new family. I think Chad has given Brandon some good information :-D and ET is a great field in the Navy as well as civilian life.

If Brandon is scheduled to be on a sub, he will be going to a different school from most of the sailors in this group. He will fall into SECF instead of AE/CF, I did check to see if they have a group set up for SECF but do not see one but they have a couple of groups set up for Subs families.

We are here to help you along the way in anyway we can.
Hey Mary. Thanks for all you've done and researched for me. I really appreciate it. Brandon is scheduled to be on a sub, but he would like to be on a ship, so I don't know if there is a way to change it or not. I have told him to talk to the recruiter. But he does leave messages for the recruiter, and the recruiter doesn't call back sometimes, which further frustrates us. But we will see, and I will keep you posted on that.
He might want to make an appointment with the NC - career counselor. In my mind, the recruiters job is done. They got him to boot camp and now his career advocate would be the NCs.

You might want to send a note to Hoppi, she is an NC on this site and I find her to be knowledgable and honest.
Hi my name is Kimberly, my son and only child Joshua is an FC on the new USS GreenBay. The ship will soon be stationed in San Diego.

He joined he Navy 2 years ago.
We only have a couple of FC Fleet Sailors at this point in the group Kimberly so hope it is okay if we pick your brain on occassion. Where did your son do his C school?
Hi My name is Crystal I am from New Mexico. My son Sam (we call him Riley) is attending ET-A School . Until last Tuesday he was on the Mustin ,but has since been moved ,so I'm not sure what ship he is on now. He will start night school on Monday, that will be just right for him, up late and sleep in lol Does anyone know what days they will have for Thanksgiving ? I have been trying to get him plane tickets home and we are not sure what days they have if any. I don't know of him using any of his liberty days since he has been there . His PIR was 5/23/08 . Thanks for the help and love the site.
Crystal
Welcome Crystal! I am not sure about the days for thanksgiving I am assuming wed. afternoon till Sunday evening. It will be considered a 96 hour liberty. They have to stay with in a certain mileage from the base on liberty, to go farther they have to take leave.
Hi Crystal, welcome to AE/CF - the long road of schooling begins today for Riley!! Did he take leave for Thanksgiving? Curious as they often won't let sailors take them while they are in school.
Hi Tammy, Kimberly and Crystal. Boy, I sure hope everyone gets their moving worked out so us moms will know our kids addresses to send cookies! (no Turkey and gravy, it runs out the box)
Liberty is general time off, leave is the earned time off one must request by chit. Liberty usually is less than 72 hours and he cannot travel more than 350 miles. If he takes leave, he must have that approved. A 96 hour liberty is possible, but I'm betting he'd have a duty day in there.

If you're thinking of him joining you at home, that's probably leave, unless you live in the area. I hope you get to see him. Fingers crossed.
Hi Annette! you are so lucky to live in Louisville, Kentucky! Neigh, neigh. Whinny.
