what happens after battlestations and before we get our phone call....

Ok i'm waiting for THE phone call... for you moms that have sailors now what is the process between battlestations and the phone call... i know they have a capping ceremony and i'm thinking breakfast, but do they rest some before calls or does it just take that long for 352 new sailors to make the phone calls...... oh yeah and when do they finally get to drop in the racks and sleep?
Come on you mom's of new sailors I know you all know this share... PLEASE!!!

Carol, I am not really sure what the procedure is, but I will tell you based on my experience with my son. The phone call came around 3;40pm and he told us that he passed and that they had the capping ceremony and that he had free time the rest of the day. I think he ended up sleeping since he had been up for more than 24hrs. I hope this helps!!! Good luck to you and Congratulations to your New Sailor!!!!! Susan
Carol, Our son called aroud 4:15 pm to tell us he was a sailor, I waited all day as we were headed to PIR and of course I was driving and coming into downtown Chicago when he called! For his group they had a pizza party that evening and went to bed 2 hours earlier than usual.
Thanks ladies!!. where are you as far as the time zone.. I am in Virginia. 1 hour behind Chicago
We are in the same time zone as you so it was actually 5:15 our time.
same with our sailor on PIR of 8/8
Hi Carol,
My son also called around 4:30PM. He said the next evening, they allowed them all to go to bed at 8PM rather than 10PM.
We saw the room where they make those phone calls last week when we were at PIR and it is a crazy place. Sometimes the phones don't work either.
You will hear soon. It will be wonderful to hear the good news that he passed!
My son said the phones were terrible. Some didn't work and others were so bad that you could hardly hear a word, so imagine a few hundred kids trying to call out at the same time! I would guess that most moms get a call after battlestations, but probably not all, due to the phone situation. Plus if they have to stand watch or something, and know that you'll be there for PIR they may not bother to try and call, after all, they'll see you in a day or two.
She better call me the little rascal... and her PIR is not til NEXT friday!!! I will go crazy not hearing from her. I've only ONE phone 10 minutes call the entire time!! Lord, I miss her sooooooo much!!!!!!!!
Our beautiful phone call came in about 12:30 that day and they typically do lights out at 8 pm as they have been up for so long. I believe they got to go to Ricky Heaven that day - which meant the arcade, Pizza Hut, etc. which is located at the Navy Exchange. It does take a while for everyone to get to a phone so hang in there ...your call will come!!!
Does all this go on the Thursday right before the graduation day on Friday? Gosh...I thought they did it on Wednesdays and called before parents may have already left for Great Lakes on Thurs.
Lois, it is different for every div, they go every night of the week, used to be the week of PIR but i beleive they have SO many in the divisions they are moving it forward a bit, Not sure exactly, just my theory!!
My son did his Thursday night before graduation. When I received my call I was already in Chicago on my may to the hotel.
