OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hi, it's Jody. Looking forward to meeting you and thank you for the help in seeing how to message someone. I had asked about the tee shirts.

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Start with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC, and read 1 or 2 pages a day and then go back to them as you need the info. Take care and blessings to you and yours.

Check in one of the groups for his rating on how they are housed while in "A" School. Most share rooms with 1 or 2 other Sailors and often share a bathroom with the Sailors in another room. That is typical and may not reflect things at GL.

Some people wait in Building 1326 at the RTC Recreation Center located next to the NEX while their Sailor checks in at the TSC across the street. Your new Sailor isn't going to spend much time there, but you can ask how long you can have access over the weekend. Your Sailor will find you after PIR, but some set up to meet by the big doors that the Sailors march in through and others set up to meet at the end of the bleachers at that end of the building. He won't have much storage room, so limit the number of clothes to favorite undies, a couple of shirts, and perhaps a pair of jeans (but they may not fit). See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend. He will have anew address after he moves over to the TSC. Sailors find out their first duty station near the end of "A" School, in his case, it should be about half way through the HT strand after BECC. Most billets right out of "A" School are for 1 year to 18 months, but could be longer. He will be able to take leave between "A" School and his first duty station for around 10 days or so--he'll want to do RAP duty while on leave and help his recruiter so he can get credit for 5 days of leave when he gets to his first duty station. (See more on that in What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology).) Yes, they usually fly to their first duty station, but he may be able to drive depending on where it is.

See Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit for what you can and cannot send. Ask your recruit before sending newspaper clippings; some are able to have them and others are not.
