Make change 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link). There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Check out AO Moms, Families. Since you have a Sailor, change "Thinking about joining" above to "Enlisted."

Hey Josh's Mom, my name is Cathy, my son is on Ship 14 Div 141 and graduates on 19Apr13...(lol..the new standard to date writing)  I had asked befor about the ribbons but haven't been able to get back on this site to find a response.  I was wondering if you can help me out as I saw that you had emailed info to another Mom.  I just got the second letter from my son.  He sound like he is doing okay.  His name is Pat.  Oh, we will be staying at the Hilton for three days. Thanks so much in advance.

You have two issues here.  First if your son has enough hours he can go in at a higher grade-so check on that and have the college send a copy to the recruiter.  Second, the recruiter is right in that it can be added later, but the sooner the better.  Until your son sign's that final contract and swears in he can walk away-despite what they might try to tell you.  What job is your son trying to get?

Well, first let me say my husband is a retired navy chief and a former navy recruiter, so when I went with my sons to the recruiters office I thought I knew what to expect. I did not, the guy did not enjoy his job and treated me like an idiot until he realized that I too was former navy and when my husband came in he got a whole new attitude. So, ask all the questions you want. My husband still has people in our little town call him, 7 years after he left the recruiters office, just to keep In touch. He has kept up with just about every recruit he put in the navy. So, unfortunately it sounds like you got a lack-luster recruiter. He is not the norm in the Navy. When both of my boys decided to join last November I was thrilled for them. Up until the day they left, July 11th, since then I have become a basket case. This website can offer you a ton of support and information. The ladies on here really seem to take an interest in everyone's situation.

Hi.  My son was the same way.  We had some issues about his recruitment and so eventually I demanded to be involved and in the end I think he was happy about that. Most recruiters are wonderful, but I have heard my share of bad experiences in this site. Make sure to tell your son to get everything he wants in writing and to double check his contract jsut before he ships-it can not be changed after they ship no matter what they tell you. Also, until they ship they are free to walk away. So, if you have any specific questions please feel free to contact me.
