My son leaves for boot camp Jan 9. Does anyone have any good information or suggestions on what he may need to take? Phone card, prepaid visas, anything? Thanks

I'm also asking for prayers for him and me.

I left more info for you on your My Page.

Thanks so much. I will. I appreciate this web page and your responses.

Missomd glad to have you along, when my son left to BC he was able to have at least 20.00 bucks on him, we also bought a small phone book and put everyone's address and phone numbers. If he has an account set already he can take his bank info with him, ID social security. if he has a phone he can take but when you receive the Box with his clothes shoes his phone may be enclosed. a phone card is good just make sure to activate ahead of time. if there is anything you may need please ask, and my prayers are with you and your Son. Congratulations to your New SR. (Seaman Recruit)

Thanls very much
We got.the ohone card. Terrific idea. We already had a NFCU rep.come to his recruitment center and set up a bank account and he received his debit card.from them. He has memorized addresses and jas phone numbers and a phone card! He leaves.Monday. So worried about everything. Trying to sleep. I know he will do.well, just don't know how to act after not having my son after 20 years...school, laundry, feeding, hearing him come home after work. Waiting up for him at night. Sounds silly, I know.

Even though he has addresses and phone numbers memorized, write them down on a small piece of paper and put it in his wallet, or get a tiny address book, which he would be allowed to keep.  Stress and exhaustion will mess with his memory under pressure, so it is best to take that off his mind when the time comes.

Missomd not silly at all, just a Mothers Instinct, stay strong and if you need anything please ask.

Taking him to MEPS in a couple hours and he leaves in the morning. I'm such a helicopter mom. This is hard ladies. I went to his room twice last night to see if he was breathing like when they are babies. Please don't laugh. His 20th birthday is his first week of boot camp. He has worked 2 years and he completed his Associates Degree at college, so I know he can do this. I will just miss him.

It is really hard no matter the age, My son left sat. he was here for the Holidays his Birthday is at the end of this month and will be 19, so we had a surprise birthday for him Friday night and I had invited all his friends it turned out nice. Sending him off again was extremely hard for me, because now he is at his last weeks of school then he will get his orders. Not knowing when I will see him again doesn't sit well with me and then the communication part is even harder. I have to stay strong in prayer and know within myself that he will be fine. So I understand Missomd what you are feeling. You need to stay busy I know it is easier said than done and it will be an emotional rollercoaster. I am here for you as are the others.

Thank you for prayers. I will pray for your son as well. Try to stay busy is a great idea. Thank you.
Well my son left
I'm sad but doing fine. Tonight he called when he got to Chicago and I heard his voice quiver when he said he loved me. I think reality is setting in. I'm sure he isn't the only one scared

Missomd, welcome to the next part of the journey. I left info for you on your My Page.
