While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Nancy Jo and Pollyanna- I'm with you and going thru the similar heartache with my oldest daughter. She was always so responsible and now she's in a bad way and shuts all her family out. I feel so sad for her, and her family/friends feel that way too.

PollyAnna, I suspect many of us can share stories of children in crisis. Yes, let your son know how much you love and support him. Also assure him that while there are consequences to choices, there is still a lot of life after those consequences that can hold great happiness. Sometimes it's just a matter of living through the dark valley. Knowing family is there is a great comfort.
I have a 27 yr old daughter that I too worry horribly about. She should be an adult and self-sustaining yet cannot face her demons. Ordinarily a parent would employ tough love or something but we fear for her mental state if we pull all the plugs completely. In most respects she thinks so childishly. I know the worry for a struggling child.
Hang in there, PollyAnna. There is a river of prayers coming from the N4Ms. I will add your son to my daily prayers for my children.

Dor, I'm so glad the holiday feast went well. I have a feeling you created some great memories this weekend. You needed (and deserve) something so wonderful after the heartache of the last months. Also, good luck with the new job! How exciting!
Welcome to all the newbies. I love hearing from you and I know you will come to love this site as much as the rest of us. I don't have as much to say as the other moms/gf/wives/whatever, but I read each and every post. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll run the gamut of emotions, but this creates a bond between us that is surely unique.

There are links to groups to join to get start (like Boot Camp Moms), links to the Recruit Training Command, videos, power point presentations. If you lose track of this link, just click MAIN on the menubar, look under the middle column, it's one of the featured Discussions.

Welcome to all the new members!! For those who have someone either still in DEP, I would encourage you to start buying cards now to send to boot camp. I started about 6 months before my son went. I would be the 2/$1.00 from Dollar Tree, etc. Everytime I went somewhere different I would look at the cards. You can buy the encouragement, hang in there, thinking of you, etc. I would buy cards intended for kids, sent a "welcome to your new home", etc. Start now keeping a file of meaningful scriptures, inspirational sayings, etc. to include with the cards. I would send a card with just a short note, and then a letter (separate) each day of boot camp. Sometimes you run out of things to say, but they appreciate hearing about the everyday routine things. It is definitely a roller coaster ride, Start now saving so that you can attend the PIR. It is always on a Friday, unless there is a federal holiday. Within the first week or so, you will get a date from your son, but start saving the $$ now. Don't ever feel you have a dumb question. We have all been where you are.

Welcome, new moms! No, I have nothing to add--just that this is a great group with a font of information. My son has often joked that I know more about some Navy stuff than he does. Ha ha.
Hoping to have a good Skype session with him tonight. Haven't Skyped since Christmas! We tried a couple weeks ago, but the computer(s) kept crashing. Fingers crossed that everything goes ok. If not, I guess we can visit the old-fashioned way, via telephone. But I love seeing him while we chat.
Had a fun time yesterday with Michigan Moms packing up goodies for the Molly's Adopt-a-Sailor Project. It's so nice to socialize while at the same time doing something for our sailors. I especially enjoyed packing up the bags of Girly Stuff for the females.

Hi suzyqnj2002, I'm guessing the nj means your son will be at MEPS at Ft. Dix. Ah, memories! Yes, you've heard right. Getting the signed contract will help ensure that your son will ultimately get a leg-up once thru boot camp, (for a higher pay grade) and hopefully be entitled to the nuke bonus ... that being said, at boot camp there will be a more stringent physical that could d'q him from the nuke program. Do attend the swearing-in ... this is a huge life milestone for your son, representing at least 6 years of his life to come. Still get a lump in my throat thinking about that day (Aug. 24, 2010). Good luck, and welcome!
