Does anyone know how far Austin is from SA. There are no direct flights from Miami to SA, but there are to Austin. Is the Gateway Inn in SA? Keep the faith

I did read the breakdown thanks. and thanks for the heads up on baby shampoo. Stephen loves the sea and ships always has since he was a toddler. I hope someday he gets duty on one. Keep the faith

Stephen starts class on Monday, although he had personal finance class already. He seems excited. Thanks for the heads up about milk and shampoo. Does it have to be baby shampoo or can it be any shampoo. When do they go on ships?? Keep the faith

I'm sure you will work something out. Best to you and your sailor.

I would think that you would be able to pick him up for Liberty. He may have to have a buddy with him.

Yes, I'm sure it's a "needs of the Navy" thing. For a while, it seemed that every other class stayed stateside and the other went overseas. It doesn't seem to be that way now.

There have been surprises for me on here recently in that some have been learning in week 1 or 2, but in the past early knowing has been based on being told that some in the class will be going to "X" or "Y" and the majority of this class will be going to "Z".

Jessica, Since your sailor just finished his third week, I would think that he would be hearing soon. From my experience and from counting weeks on here, some sailors hear in the third week (with hints ahead of then of possible duty stations) and others hear in week 4. I don't think there has been anyone in the last year that has been past week four in knowing unless there was a problem. They seem to always know before Block 5.

Wow, Nicole, that was really fast to find out the first duty station since he's just been in A School about a week! It was in the third week that my sailor knew for sure. Before that, they had been told that the majority of the class would be going to a certain place and then he was among the first to pick and got a different place.

Sharon, I started a discussion above and hope that you and others will add to it to help fill in the blanks on what happens week by week for the 7 weeks of MA A School because this comes up quite often.
