My son sailed away ob the America Saturday morning! We were there to watch it, and it was such a beautiful, awe-inspiring experience! Its his first deployment, so of course now I'm dealing with lots of emotions I didn't really expect, but I am beyond proud of him and all his shipmates!

Good day all!!! So my husband just got his orders for the USS America and we are completely clueless about what this means for us. I have TONS and TONS of questions!

1. Does this mean that he is automatically on sea duty or is that only true if the ship is commissioned?! 2. What areas in San Diego should I stay away from when apartment searching? 3. What areas are great to live in for families?!

I have so much more that I want to ask, but I don't want to saturate my first post with them all.

If you can direct me to a creditable resource that could help me learn anything and everything about being stationed here, that would be so helpful!

If you are currently stationed here and don't mind teaching a newbie a thing or two, don't hesitate to contact me!

Thank you all in advance! XOXOXOXOOXOX

Does anyone know anything about Fleet Week? We are new to the Navy and don't know what the best approach is.
