Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."
Follow this link for OPSEC Guidelines:

Don't forget to make at least change 3.
Click on OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and the Page will open in a new window. Read the Page and follow the directions at the bottom to make change 3 (see the words in bold) so that this page is no longer visible to EVERYONE with access to the web. There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes. Another change that I recommend that is mentioned in change 1 is to change the ZIP code to one that is not easily associated with your recruit.
I see you have joined AECF - FCs and ETs; your recruit will discover his rating while in BC, usually near the end of BC. "A" School is in GL, so you will also want to join Great Lakes A School Q&A and GL A-school moms. You can also check out the Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes Facebook Page. The Rating Information Card for AECF can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/aecf.pdf. The Rating Information Card for Electronics Technician (ET) can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/et.pdf and the one for Fire Controlman (FC) can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/fc.pdf.
You will be able to enjoy extra time with your Sailor following PIR. (See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend.)
I invite you to visit Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) again. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Start with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and read 1 or 2 pages a day and then go back to them as you need the info.
Congrats on your call today!!!!
Did you get a call from your SR already? Just wondering b/c you said hie told you about his bunkmate.
Morning proudnavymom, wanted to see how you are doing.
I am looking forward to receiving letters from my son, everyday checking the mailbox.
We did book our flights last night so Im getting more excited, we are leaving from SATX.Do you guys know where you all are planning on staying in Great Lakes?
Take care and Hugs to you...Nickie
Hey There! Thought I would respond to you here rather than on Bootcamp Moms since the posts go fast there! We took the shuttle to PIR and loved it. Very easy! We were on the 6:30 a.m. shuttle and would do it that way again. Picked it back up afterwards in the same place, sailor in tow. Does your SR fly out for A School or stay in GL School? If flying out, they usually do that the next day (bussed to the airport from RTC). You have PIR day with them until about 8 or 9 pm, return them to RTC, and then you can meet them at the airport the next day.
If they stay in GL for A School, they will move over there shortly after PIR is over. Takes 2-3 hours and then they will call you to pick them up for liberty. GL A School students have daytime liberty through the weekend (have to be back at night on A School base)....except if they have a watch (usually 4 hours long)
Hope this helps! I will see you over on the PIR group when you find yours out and join! I am a N4Moms veteran who helps there.
You are very correct my friend!!! Our kids chose this for themselves!!! Of course we will always miss them, that is called being a Mom...:)
