I am so happy that this website is here and I am happy I was accepted. I was reading some of the other blog post and realized that I am not alone. My son Damien decided he wanted to join the Navy and of course I wasnt happy about it because he is my only child. But after going with him to the recruiters and talking with them I feel much better about it. So since he is only 17 when he decided to join I agreed to sign the papers, and I figured he would join in April anyways because thats when he turns 18.

I am trying to be supportive and I find it so hard because all I want to do is cry, and when he is not home and I start thinking about it I start crying like a big old baby. Anyways my son graduates High School on June 10th and then he he ships to basic on August 7th, then after that he is going to A school because he is going into the Nuke program. I am so very proud of him but it is so hard. I am glad that the Navy recruiters do 2 meetings a month with him to prepare him for everything that is coming. I am sorry for rambeling but I am crying like a big baby right now

My son was a DEPr too.  He has since completed Boot Camp and A School.  It does get easier and you will be so proud of the man he has become as I am of mine!  If he does leave soon, let him know not to wear his good clothes to the final induction before they leave.  They will have to pay to send those things back to you in The Box, which usually comes with the first official letter-a quick scribble on the back which will give you all kinds of info about Boot Camp and how to contact your then recruit.  Please be sure to come back and visit the site.  Lot's of support here from new people, boot camp, PIR, A school and other Moms!  We definitely understand!

my son signed up for the navy as soon as he turned 17 too and like you I went with him to sign his papers. Hardest thing I had ever done!. He turns 18 later this month and graduates high school in late May. Off to bootcamp July 2nd. He is in DEP right now and has been a seacadet for the last 6 years so he knows alot of the lingo and drills. You are so right. It is confusing to be so very proud and so very nervous at the same time. I get teary eyed at least daily. Luckily I can blame it on allergies so my son doesn't roll his eyes at his sappy mom. I know you moms out there know that look.  Hang in there. We will all be okay.

My son has been gone to BC since March 14th and let me tell you, this site was a God send!! And I can tell you it is the most bittersweet feeling in the world! The pride is so enormous but so is the feeling of loss and the overwhelming feelings that come with it! But be strong it gets easier and this site will save you when your at your lowest, I promise! Remember when they leave, they are in strange surroundings and people, most have never been far from home long let alone away from everyone they know, so keep your letters upbeat and positive, tell them again and again how proud you are and how much you love them! All bad news can wait for after PIR! Best thing we can do as Moms is support them with more then pride, support them in your letters, send them little jokes, or word searches, things to keep their minds off BC, hard to do, but not impossible! But most of all know you are NOT alone! Everyone here has been thru it or will be going thru it, so we are here! Never feel bad for asking for help, you will need it to get thru this! Lots of best wishes for your kids and lots of prayers all military moms!!
