Navy For Moms

Jessica made it to boot camp. She left last night. It didnt sink in until today that she had left the nest.
It truly broke my heart to hear her voice shake on the phone today. I reassured her it was ok ,and how proud i am of her. I think this is harder on me than her.

Gladys - the next eight weeks will be the longest of your life. Keep yourself busy, and write her as much as you can. My son PIRd last Friday, and said that mail-call became his daily drug - it was the letters that really got him through bootcamp. The next phone call from her will be better - the tough part is you never know when it is coming. My son was not able to make a call after the second one until after they had completed battlestations - so we did not hear his voice for 6 weeks! Stay on this site - the frequent contact with moms just like you will be your salvation. In retrospect, the 8 weeks does go very fast - know your daughter is in good hands - just communicate to her in your letters that you believe in her and that you love her very much. You will have a whole new appreciation for your sailor at PIR. Take care - Lou.

Gladys I do agree with Lou the next eight weeks is brutal, my son left for bc on the 8th of Sept and I have been seating by that phone everyday since his departure date and the one day that I decided to go see my doctor, guess who call? good thing somebody was home to get the call, but that's my child and I didn't get to talk to him and who knows when he will be able to call again. Also they are only allowed to write on Sundays during their time off but you will get a letter around the 3rd week and a phone call also but remember the phone calls have to be earn, they would have had to do something good like on a test, pt or something like that to get a call or if they whole division did something good than they all get to make a call. but like Lou said this site will be your shoulder to lean on when you feel down and missing your child.

Hi Ladies,
I saw your blog and just had to comment. My daughter graduated 8/808 and is currently in Pensacola, FL. It is really very hard when they are in Boot Camp but they all get through it. Thank God it is cooler now outside. My daughter talked about all the clothes they are made to wear and it didnt matter how hot out it was. So, that will be a little bit easier on them. I got a phone call the day she arrived in GL and not another one until the week of graduation. The only other time she could of called, she said, every phone she tried was broken and they kept eating up her phone minutes on the phone cards. She would call... my phone rang ... but when I answered I couldnt hear anyone. She said, she cried, marching all the way back to the baracks. BUT alas she got through it all and is still happy she decided to join the navy. Just keep writing and mailing letters. It doesnt even matter what you write. I used to send her a print out from the computer on what was happening on Hells Kitchen. haha
Hang in their ladies.
