My son graduates September 21. I am coming from Spain to his graduation and need to know how many days is he given to spend with family right after graduation. Can he sleep in the hotel with us? We are very confused and will love for some help with this. Thanks

I am pretty new on here as my son just left for BC this past Monday but I believe it depends on where he's going for A school after graduation. It's my understanding if he has A school in Great Lakes that he will have the weekend to spend with you but will not be able to stay in the hotel room with you. If he has to leave to fly out to A school in another state, then I believe they fly out on Saturday. I'm sure one of the other Navy mom's will correct me if I am wrong on that.  My son will stay in Great Lakes for his apprenticeship so we plan on staying Thursday night  and leaving on Monday. Hope that helps.

My son graduated 6/29 he flew out to A-School early Sunday morning. We were able to pick him up Saturday and spend the day with him. But no they can’t stay overnight with you. And of course we had Friday with him also. It’s hard to make your flight arrangements when you don’t know what their orders are. We found out on Friday we could have him all day Saturday so I’m glad our flight out was Sunday. Best of luck

We spent afternoon with our grad.  We had to have him back on base for inspection by 9:00 p.m.  Normally, he would have left for his A School in Pensacola early Saturday morning, but he was sent to the holding unit because of a medical issue.  Several other families that were in our hotel met their sons at 3:00 a.m.Saturday morning at Chicago Midway prior to their departure to Pensacola.  I can tell you that the Navy encourages you to get refundable airline tickets.  Typically,  you are expected to wait until you get a call from your son or daughter advising that they are graduating.  Apparently, they have a 12 hour exercise that they must complete before they are sure of graduating.  Some will not participate in this exercise until mid week.  We did not hear until Wednesday or Thursday.  We were quite anxious, but this is not unusual. If they are staying.

Jackie, the "I'm a Sailor!" call comes one to seven days before PIR for most divisions now. See the info in Battle Stations-21 (BST).
