My son left for bootcamp earlier this month. I received his returned articles, one letter but no call on Christmas or his birthday. Is this normal? Or am I just being a mom?

My son is in this same division! I was also wanting a call so bad on Christmas but no such luck. I have only received one letter as well. I'm not so patiently waiting lol. Glad to see someone else who is in the same division as my son!

Thank goodness I'm not alone.

You're not alone. I pray for his whole division all the time. He said in his letter that some of the guys were sick, including him. Now I'm just dying to hear from him again to know he's better.

Hope he gets better. Keep in touch and let me know if you hear anything, and I'll do the same.

Thank you. I will. I sent you a friend request so we can message each other...

Very few get to make calls on Christmas, there are only so many phones, and there are far too many sailors.  For his birthday?  That would be a no.  The phones aren't where they are berthed, the entire division must march over to the phone banks to use them.  One sailor having a birthday isn't reason for the whole group to get to make a call.

Being sick on boot camp is normal; they've brought in recruits from all over the US, no telling what came with them.  The gamma-gobulin shot to boost their immune systems helps, but not 100%.

Hope they are all doing well. I think today was the day they actually started boot camp. I'm sure it will be a real eye opener for them

So we know this is a "performing" division....my son plays trumpet. What about yalls sons?
Comment by Shelly on December 29, 2011 at 7:39am
Thanks. I've been keeping my cell phone charge and with me the minute he left. I even sleep with it now. I suppose I'll get use to the "no phone calls" someday. But even when he was in college I could leave a message and he would get back to me in a day or two. This is much harder!
