Hey there ladies!

I need some advice - I contacted at&t to put a military suspense on my Sailor's cell plan, they said they are happy to do this, I "simply" need to fax a copy of his orders in to them....  huh?  How in the world do I get a copy of his orders?  I thought these were private for OPSEC reasons?

Anyone else had to deal with this - what did you do?

Thanks all!

I am with Verizion and they tried that with me. I said I dont have a copy of his orders and he is on a ship in the middle of no where.. So I gave them the ship name and the commanding officer of the ship and also where he was stationed and that was good enough.. I hope that helps...

You can fax his orders, it is okay.  He is going to boot camp?  Ask his recruiter.  Going to a first command?  He'll have to send a copy to you.  Copies of orders are used for all sorts of things.

Thanks Ladies! Anti M - he is aboard the Stennis right now - his first command.  So I should be expecting a copy of his orders?  When he was on his leave home before reporting, I asked if I could see them (curiosity a downfall of mine) and he wouldn't show them to me as he assumed they were somewhat classified?

I know Im listed as next of kin, but he never did do the power of attorney thing.  I will wait for my copy then - and try to call AT&T again as well.  Thank you all!

His orders are not classified.  (I used to have a Top Secret clearance, so yeah, I know about it! LOL)  Tell him to ask his chief.  What the ship is doing, and where it is and when it  is going, and what condition it is in, morale of the crew, and so on... now, that's classified!

If he still doesn't want to give you a copy, well, let him pay the bill.

Jen, Is that the ship that had the fire in San Diego? I hope all is well.

My son just disconnected his Sprint before bootcamp and gave me his online information to pay it off. He will have to go with another service out of bootcamp. I will pray for your sailor and the fleet on the Stennis. Take Care.

Thanks all!  He's out of bootcamp, yes proud4son85 - he is on the Stennis, and he's fine I believe. Thank you.

Anti M - Thank you for the clarification (sp?)!! I will write to him and ask him to ask his Chief.  I like you're attitude too!  Can lead them to water - right? :-)

Denise - I will try again tonight.  The contract is in his name, he signed up straight out of bootcamp, and was told that of course it would not be a problem for him to suspend his coverage if need-be, but not given (nor did he ask for) any other details at the time.  Making the sale, but I do wish that the sales people would have been more forthcoming with this type of information.  I'm positive that at the Gurney Mills mall, a HUGE percentage of thier new contract sales are to Sailors fresh out of bootcamp!  Anyhow - that's my rant, sorry :-)

Thanks for all the help ladies - and glad that most of you had very easy cellular transitions for your Sailors! :-)

We just talked to sprint since my son will be going to boot camp in December and they requested a copy of his orders which we didn't have. Thanks for all this information, so I can take care of this as  the time gets closer.

I would call back & speak to someone else.  I wouldn't mention that you already spoke to someone.  Yes, they probably have a record of previous conversation but, they usually don't check records unless you mention something.  It seems to depend on who you speak with.  If you still have a problem, I would insist on speaking with a supervisor.  Also, ask for names &/or badge number.

When my son left for BC I just called AT&T & told them he was going to BC & he wasn't allowed to have a phone.  They did not ask for any proof.  They just put his number on hold until I called back & asked them to reactivate it.  There was no charge.

Hope this works!
