I know, I am so excited about Friday. I am leaving tonight for the 12 hour drive there. I hope I get to see you.
Thank you for the welcome! This site has helped me immensely.I was so overwhelmed the last 8 weeks that I didn't even know what questions to ask.If that makes any sense. But now that I know I get to see my daughter on Friday I can relax a tiny bit:)
Welcome rjkj1 - this is a great site.

rjkj1, You will have a Blast!! PIR is a wonderful experience AND THEN you get to HUG your girl, PRICELESS!

Hello,
I just joined this group. My daughter's PIR is this Friday and I can't wait. She's had some rough times in bootcamp(as she says 'I'm not an athlete,we all know that'lol)but she pushed through.I am so proud of her,and I could just hear the relief in her voice when I got the 'I'm a sailor' call. This website has helped me so much,I can't even tell you,so thank you all for your knowledge!
cuanmi,
I'll start by saying it's been awhile since I've had a sailor at bootcamp!!! Remember no news is good news. If something goes wrong at this point in time you will get a phone call from your girl. She may have battlestations right before PIR!! Since she will be staying there she will have to pack out of the barracks at RTC and move her stuff across the street to the regular base for her training. You can always stay longer if your time and money allows, there is lots to do in that area from Gurnee to Chicago!!! What I don't know is if she will have any liberty once she starts the week at Great Lakes. Usually brand new sailors have to earn privileges while in A school like liberty, having her electronics, and wearing civilian clothes. If you haven't joined the group for CS A School at Great Lakes do that and ask moms who have been through it or have sailors there now. And when you do get to talk to your daughter, ask her also. She may have some insight. Sorry I don't have definitive answers for you!!
Thank you NVM-Moms of Daughters 2! I'm so exited to be part of this group. As a mother, as I'm sure all of you are, are anxious-excited-proud to have a daughter that has joined the Navy. My daughter is in her last few days to PIR, Aug 25. Div 263. No news/letter this week, no "I'm a Sailor" call yet. I am a little anxious and trying to get my head around this new phase. I'm a little bit worried with the news this week, nervous that there is a snag in her plans, unfortable that I am unable to really plan the weekend/week. Her rate is CS and I hear she will stay in GL at least one week...so I'm trying to make arrangements to stay the weekend. Should I plan for longer? Any GREAT tips anyone can give me about the next stage in her life. :) I need a CALM down, it's all going to be ok! -- M
