For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Our LO has been in H since last Friday...it very well could be that your son is referring to our LO and Teddi (my future mother-in-law). We are praying for your LO to heal quickly and be able to roll into the next group- remember that all things happen for a reason! :)

Prayer is such a powerful thing and when my LO left for OCS I found I was praying more than I ever had in a long time. Along with this site it is was got me through the whole process. A special prayer is always said for those in H, praying for their physical strength and also that emotionally they stay strong which helps the healing process. A positive attitude is some of the best medicine.

Since my LO will be leaving to drive to RI (2700 mi), I would love any bullet ck lists of things to remember pack for him. His dad and his brother will be making the trip with him...I will miss going on this testerone-filled vacation that I am accustomed to, since I will not be going!

Jordosmom, I was told to have my LO bring lint brushes and a cuticle scissor - specifically for when they do the room and clothing inspection! The lint brush for obvious reasons, and the cuticle scissors to remove any piece of lose thread that may be on his clothing!! Additionally, I packed plain white envelopes, a list of addresses, stamps, a pen and plain white paper for him to write home. Another piece of excellent advice was to have your LO dress casually when he checks in. He'll have to put the jumpsuit over his clothing the first day and in the summer... that can be quite uncomfortable if he's "dressed up"!! I'm sure some of the more experienced mom's will be chiming in with even more valuable information. Good luck to your LO and to you and your family!

Thanks again. We just finished our first real serious round of shopping. He purchased a Shark brand iron, regular size. At first I thought of a travel size, but got a regular instead as they didn't have one. OK? The advice is priceless. Thanks so much!

A phone card!!Not a prepaid cell one but one they can use at the pay phones. What most of them do is to call you, and ask you to call them back. I bought my LO one at Sam's, 1000 minutes for $35. They have acess to the NEX for items that may have been forgotten, so don't sweat too much. Good luck to your son.

the list below is one that a friend from N4M's provided us with last October. I emailed it to my son last night and his response was:
"thats a good list. you could probably leave the white t-shirts in the car until RLP just to save space at first, but you will have to store them eventually"
Here is the list:
8 pairs white underwear
8 pairs white athletic socks (no ankle socks)
5 white crew neck t-shirts
Good running shoes (broken in, but not old)
White bath towel and wash cloth
-Ensure that you have enough toiletries to last at least 3 weeks
Baby wipes
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Soap (bars, avoid body wash)
Razors and shaving cream
A good deodorant
Chapstik
Stamps
Digital wrist watch (with alarm feature)
Battery-powered alarm clock (optional, if alarm on watch isn’t enough to wake you up- NO RADIO FEATURE)
Things to leave in the car
Another towel and wash cloth
Extra socks, t-shirts, and underwear
Starch
A good iron
Lint rollers
1-inch wide blue painter’s tape
Clear nail polish
Super glue
A new pair of running shoes (optional, used for inspection, or to be worn around regiment after RLP)
Tweezers
I know there have been good stories and bad about storing your things in someone's car, we had no problems fortunately. They all share iems that other don't have. My son was thankful for the iron and used his tweezers for the little threads along with the cuticle scissors. Hope this helps a little.

Thanks for all your input! We will be taking the lists today and finishing the shopping. After looking at some of your comments, he very excitedly said, "Mom, get a group going or us right away!" He knows his mom will be taken care of :) I am thinking May 30 would be 19-10? So will need to know if one is started, or if I should wait until he actually is in on that Sunday? Looking forward to out time together! Kleenex is at hand!!!!

I would start it now. There are probably other moms or wives from the class "lurking" (and if you are, welcome! don't be shy!) Plus, I would do a short post to it daily, to keep it near the top of the discussion list. Make it easy to be found.
The first week is the hardest! and the longest! get ready for the complete lack of any communication.Most of us have realized that that is one of the hardest things to get used to. -
