OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

10 Days to Boot Camp, Broken Elbow
Hi everyone,
My son has been enrolled in DEP for the past year. He was to leave for Boot Camp next week. He broke his elbow this past weekend. He was going into the NUKE program. We called the recruiter and he said he would have to be discharged and re enlist after he has healed. My son is crushed, and I feel so terrible for him.
I suppose my question is, "What now?". I have read different things and am not sure why the discharge rather than putting his ship date out. That being said, what should he be doing in the mean time?
1. If he has to re enlist, evidently he loses his job. Does he have to retake the ASVAB? What are the chances he will get back to where he was?
2. Is there any way to stay in DEP and just change the ship date rather than the discharge?
3. We were told he would have to "start all over". What does that mean?
He has been so excited and has already put in so much time. I feel terrible for him. Any advice/encouraging words I can give him? Is there anything he should be doing in the mean time...paper work, etc?

He can only be in DEP for a certain amount of time, that is why he has to be dishcarged from DEP.
He will have to go through the whole process again, minus taking the ASVAB (as long as it is with in a certain amount of time, sence he took it)
Start over...everything...physical, try to get a job, new contract, new ship date...Just like when he joined the first time, plus now he will need a waiver for having been dishcharged from DEP, and for having a broken wrist.

He was filling a job slot available at the time, if he is unable to fill the job they will take the next available to fill it. I believe his ASVAB score is valid for 12 months, but Craig will be able to answer a lot of your questions on this subject.

I was just reviewing my page and found this. Thank you so much for the advice a year ago. He was given a medical discharge, was cleared, and actually got the same job as before. He left for RTC yesterday. It has been a long journey, but it was actually great to have him home for that extra year.
Again, I appreciate the support from so long ago. The Navy has been a great experience as far as support goes. Now, I wait patiently. :) And send him much love and letters!!

My nephew is a nuke on a sub, he loves it. Tough school, but so worth it.

I think it will be worth it as well. He hasn't decided if he wants to go sub or not. I guess he will figure that out in the next eight weeks?? I do know he wants MM. I am just ready to be able to have an address and communicate with him. Missing him tonight!

Congratulations. If you can stick around and help the other new members?? It would mean so much. The site need more members to step up and help. Old timers like me are picking up our social security and being put out to pasture (just kidding). In all seriousness, some of us have sailors who are no longer in the Navy. Others with more current experience will need to pick up the slack. We have a core group what is wonderful. Additional man/woman power would great ...
