My son James is an MA ( Master at Arms). I've seen moms of seabees, nukes and seals.I think it will be interesting to learn about all the jobs in the Navy. With this discussion a mom with Q's about a job or duty can find someone with experience :) Melissa.

My son has been in Bahrain since Oct. 07. He received his soon after he arrived, but others were told the same that it would catch up to them.
It depends on your school and what you enlist at as to when they get the bonus and it is in installments not all in one lump sum. Congress only just passed a bill that would give the bonus to those who enlisted in 08 and for those that are re enlisting as they all thought that they would not get anything
My daughter is scheduled to go to Bahrain after she finishes her MA training in Virginia Beach. What job does your son have and what can you tell me about life in Bahrain?
wow..how is that going?? do you get to hear from him much? i pray he is safe!
Has her clearance been finalized yet? If I remember correct, Brooke got part of her bonus after her clearance went through and she actually began her IT job.
God Bless you and your son Karen.
That scares the hell out of me, but I know one day I may be in that situation.
Geez I wish I could send some hot food to them.
I have been thinking that I would call the recruiter and see if there is a navy volenteer program or an Oregon program I could help out with. To somehow help guys who are stuck over in a less then favorable area.
God Bless your son Karen. Having served 2 tours in Iraq, my Marine son speaks very highly of Navy Corspmen.
Beautiful story!! thankyou Sailor!!
God Bless....i will keep him in my prayers. I hope he stays safe!
My daughter Brooke is an IT3...she works at the Office of Naval Intelligence at Pearl Harbor...she's on staff duty for the Rear Admiral there....I hope I told that right..she has corrected me in the past. She really likes what she's doing. Her A School was at Corey Station at Pensacola. Pearl Harbor is to be her duty station for 3 years...1 down..2 to go. As of Thursday she'll become a Supervisor of her own department. At just a couple months shy of turning 20 years old, she's come a long way in a very short amount of time. The Navy has so far been a very good career choice for her.
you must be so proud of her.

When Jason was little, I bought him a McDonald's playset. Jason loved to pretend to cook and his passion for cooking continued over the years. He continued to take any cooking class offered to him in school and spent his last two years of high school at a vocational school where he received extensive training in food preparation. He worked at a well-known tourist resort as well during high school and was praised for his talents. Jason entered the Navy knowing exactly what he wanted to do in the Navy -- Cook, cook and cook! Since he entered the Navy nearly 2 years ago, he has already advanced to the Captain's table (what a great thing to be able to put on his resume) and has prepared meals, adding his magic touch, not only for the captain and his officers but for many dignitaries who visit his ship from time to time. Not many people can say they love their job but my son can and he cannot wait until the day when he can open up his own restaurant and share with the world his talents.
