Does anyone have information on how a sailor can be adopted? I got my phone call from my daughter this weekend and she has a cold and is really home sick. She told me the church is coming by for Christmas so I was thinking if someone could adopt her that would be a great help! Any ideas or suggestions? She got there on November 9th and graduates on December 31. Thank you in advance for your help.

My SR graduates this Friday 12/05. He was adopted for Thanksgiving, along with 210 other SRs, by a local church. There are many different churches and organizations that did this. He got to call a few times during the day was extremely happy and thankful for the church. They really rolled out the Red Carpet for them. He said it was a great day and he will always remember it!!!
Check out this link about the church he went to:
Our sailor was in bootcamp this time last year too, he was in for Thanksgiving and Christmas. His division was adopted by the American Legions and taken by bus to their community hall. He said it was really nice, wonderful welcoming people, had more food than they could eat, banks of computers for their use, personal cell phones were handed around constantly for as long as anyone wanted to talk, computer games to play, movies. He said they had the best day! I sent a donation to them to pay it forward, I was just so grateful my son had someone to take him in for a few hours. Your sailor will be fine, and you will get a call on Christmas day :)
I'm in the south Florida area, I'd like to know how I can help give young sailors that are away from home.
Confused, what is this adoption all about, i'm new to this, my grandson does not graduate till Jan 23 so will definitely be there for Christmas. How can we make it easier for him.
You can make it easier for him by sending him encouraging letters and cards. See the info in http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/pdfs/FamilyGuide_v18Jun2013.pdf and Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.
Otter1765, you will not be able to adopt your recruit for Christmas since he will not have PIR on either 12/30/2014 or 01/09/2015. Recruits in those TG's are the only ones who can be adopted. Your recruit should have PIR on 02/06/2015. He will have holiday routine on Christmas Day and will have the opportunity to attend chapel and will have a nice meal and will have the opportunity to write home among other things. Don't expect a call, but be pleasantly surprised if you receive a phone call. See the Page, What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology), for more on the Adopt-A-Sailor program and Holiday Routine. See Phone Cards and Phone Calls, and Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit for more on calls and letters.
