I'm wondering if the adopt a sailor program or graduation day runs background checks on people trying to adopt a family member or come to graduation? I'm currently dealing with a court situation and I'm hoping that it won't become an issue, but I'm not sure. Any ideas on how that works?

If you are talking about the program for recruits in bootcamp?  You have to be immediate family to the recruit and the recruit also has to be a certain division in bootcamp, not all division will be adopted out for Christmas (guessing that is what you are talking about as today is Thanksgiving) I know they are cracking down more and more on people who are not immediate family adopting the recruit... so I would not doubt they could do a check on the people who are coming to adopt the recruits.  Never know, they are the military.

My 2 cents if you have serious enough legal issues to post this question, I would not be going on a military base.  As if you have a warrant out for you or something, you never know when the gate guards will pull someone over for a random check of the vehicle and also run your information.

To come to graduation, you must be on the access list the SR has submitted, and have current ID. That simple.

Only certain divisions are eligible for adopt a sailor, those that are send out the forms to family members.  When the holiday arrives, they verify who the family member is, according to the SR's records. Those who adopt must show ID, as there have been problems with people claiming to be spouses or relatives when they are not.  Girlfriends, boyfriends, friends, and fiances are not eligible to adopt recruits for the holiday.

They don't run a criminal background check.

The only time a background check is run is if you want to stay at the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites or if you are randomly picked for a thorough check while driving on base. Other than that, as has been posted, you must be on the Access List and have current photo ID for PIR or be on your Recruit's paperwork as a relative, have submitted the required form on time, and have current photo ID for the Adopt-A-Sailor program.

Still keep in mind the can and do pull people over for random checks on the base, and when they do that they do run the persons information also.

Thank you for all of the replies!

I just wanted to make sure that something like a speeding ticket wouldn't prevent my attendance.

Can't wait to see my wife!

... drive safe!
