She's only in boot camp but already the support from people I have never even met before is amazing!

My husband met with a gentleman this morning who is retiring from the Navy later this year, right now has been in for 24 years! He wished my daughter luck, then as they finished up their meeting he turned to my husband and told him to give him a call when she gets to San Diego. My husband was a little taken back and asked why? He told him that he knows alot of high ranking people in the Navy in San Diego and that he can put my mind at rest by having some people watch out for her.

I have never met this man, and probably never will, but his thoughtful understanding of what it's like for me, as a mom, to worry and wonder if she's o.k., and willingness to just make a phone call to ease my mind is the most priceless gift I could get!

It does seem like there is always someone to offer support. I can be in wal-mart and see some one wearing a navy shirt and of course I always say my son has joined to Navy and a conversation will be started. I just wish I had another mom who has been through it there with me the day he leaves cause I am already a wreck. I want to be strong for him but I know I probably won't be able to keep it together. It's hard to let them go even though I am very proud of him.
