Even though my son just entered boot camp I would like to get a head start on the plans for graduation because I will need to schedule the time off from work. We will be driving from Tennessee and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for the drive. Also any suggestions for lodging in the area? I am worried the weather will be too bad for the drive but I am praying everything will be okay.

See Saving Money PIR Weekend and PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend. You can't make any firm plans until you get the form letter with his PIR date, which could be 02/07/2014 or 02/14/2014.

Check your My Page and join the groups I've given you previously.

We stayed at a courtyard marriott in Waukegan. It was great. It has a Walmart within walking distance along with restaurants. Easy access to base with multiple routes. Also near a meet and greet. Can book early and cancel with no penalties.

I'm coming from Tennessee too.  I was thinking about driving, but was too worried about the weather.  I was able to get inexpensive flights on Southwest.  We are staying at the Navy Lodge Great Lakes, which is run by the DOD.  You can stay there as long as you give them your SR's name.  I hope you have a safe trip!

We will have to drive I am very worried about the weather but can't afford the airfare for 3, and my mom won't fly. Safe travel to you as well. When does your Sr graduate

Sorry to hear that!  He graduates 2/7/14

Stay at the Embassy Suites North Shore/ Deerfield; they offer great rates in February. Included in your rate; cooked to order breakfast every morning and complimentary appetizers and drinks every night. Call me at 847-597-2775 for great group discounts!

Thanks for the info I will look into it.

Thank you I will be calling you tomorrow as we will be flying in from California our stay will be a little longer. Want to avoid missing the PIR due flight delays bc of weather

My family stayed at Courtyard Marriot in Waukegan our sons PIR on 11/27.  It was perfect.  About 10 minutes from base.  They were very accomodating.

Thank you I will check it out

My son graduated boot last fri....There are no words ....you must go!!
We stayed at the navy lodge..reasonable $66/nite and very flexible at no charge
for last min changes in your stay. There is a meetngreet on thus nights at the sun dance salloon put on by sarge...invaluable!! Not to mention the commaradarie! We live with a days drive of Gr Lks but left early due to weather. Lucky we did leave wiggle room! Snow but got there in time for meet n greet at 530 thurs. Plan on staying an extra day or so depending on where your recruit has to report toASchool...they may or may not have leave...we lucked out over Christmas stand down...our sailor will b home for 15 days but we came home sun. After grad. Usually when u mention kid in sevice all sorts of doors open! As it should! Blessing to you and your recruit!!

Congrats to your sailor. :-)
