My son left yesterday, august 15, for boot camp at Great Lakes. Any mommas out there with ones that have shared their experiences with you?  I am missing him, yes, but sooo excited for the adventure ahead of him. Can't help but find myself wondering what he is doing right now.

My daughter left August 3rd. I feel the same, miss her but so excited for her and so very proud of the choices she has made.
Hi my son just arrived yesterday, Aug 17, for BC at Great lakes. I am Missing my boy and feel very sad. I am very proud and excited but cant help feeling sad.

Hi , my son flew to Great Lakes on August 17th also. I looked at the August Deppers group but didn't see anyone listed as this Aug (2011). I haven't received a letter, but wouldn't expect to yet. Is there a quicker way to find out the PIR date? I'll be coming from Oregon and need as much time as possible to try to get a reasonably priced flight. Does anyone have reccomendations for not-too-expensive places to stay for the weekend he graduates? Thanks for the help. It's so good to know I'm not the only one missing my amazing son. And that so many others are experiencing that pride and excitement for their 'kids', too!!

Hi Anne,

It is most likely that your son will be in the 10/14/2011 group. The group has not started yet ...but we're working on it! We like a mom/GF/wife etc from the group to be the creator of it. Calculating eight weeks out from this week. He could get pushed to a later week. The form letter you receive from your recruit will have the date. Changing PIR groups IF you are on the "wrong" one is not a problem though, so we encourage you to join your "guestimated" one and then switch if you have to!

I am on the west coast also so it may take about 10 days to get the form letter...I hope it comes earlier than that though!

Please join the "DEP Leaving for Boot Camp in August Group", here is the link:

Boot Camp Moms group is a good place too.

There are lots of good places...your form letter will have a brochure in it from RTC that lists a lot of places. Also, when you get into your PIR group the moms will help you there.

Thank you for the friend request...accepting it now!

My son also left for Great Lakes on the 17th August.

Miss him bunches, but VERY proud of him for following his dream.

8 weeks till graduation seeems like eternity until I will see him again. And than on to "A" school for at least another 13 weeks.

My son left August 9, 2011 I have not heard from him yet. I am going nuts I miss him so much. His siblings and I spend much time wondering what he is doing. I finally got his address Tuesday from his recruiter which helped alot. This truly is life changing for all of us

I have not gotten his letter yet and as of last week his recruiter had his address but not his PIR date he said he could still be in processing or waiting for the rest of his division to arrive. All I know is we are creeping up on two weeks and I am losing my mind at this point. I have never gone this long ever without talking to him or knowing what he is doing... This is way harder than I ever imagined... Thank you for the group suggestions.

Thanks so much....It is hard learning to navigate through all this stuff  :0)

Right under the big Navy For Moms mast head are a bunch of tabs on a menu bar (Main, Invite, My Page, About Us, Members ... etc).

On a regular basis do the following:

1.  Check MY PAGE tab on the menubar - this is your personal page. When you get to your personal page, look for new messages from other members. On the left you'll find the groups you belong too, photos of your friends, the blogs you've started, forum discussions you've started.
2.  Check YOUR sign in / sign out box on upper right. This tells you if you have any friend requests, messages, alerts. Or you can access your settings.
3.  Once you have joined some groups, you can access them quickly by clicking on GROUP tab on menubar, then "My Groups" or you get access from your own page.
4.  If you are getting too many email notifications, just click "Stop Following" wherever you see it - that will start to limit the emails you get. Don't stop all notifications because you then won't know if someone is sending you a message.
Just browse through stuff the site. Go to Forum, then HOW TO DO STUFF ON N4M, for more info.
On the NEW MOMS STOP HERE group (I am one of the admins) we have a bunch of  reference PAGES underneath the member icons. The survival guide will gave you outline your the information you'll need. Watch the videos.  YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT EFFORT TO READ THIS STUFF - OVER AND OVER AGAIN. (I know it's boring). Keep at it. It'll get better. We promise.   Be sure to join the PIR group as soon as you get the form letter and know the date.  Scroll to previous comment and click on link to GROUPS: Listed By PIR Date.

Got his PIR date...October 7th.  Ship 09 DIV 338

Very excited! It has been easier so far this week, especially after getting his letter on Monday.

Still haven't heard from my SR. Was hoping I would get a letter today, but maybe the holiday is slowing mail up a bit. Did get the form letter a little over a week ago, but sure would LOVE to hear from him. These last three weeks have seemed like an eternity.

You know I will be doing the happy dance, as soon as I get the first letter.

My sister, retired Navy, keeps reminding me that no news is good news. That's easy for her to say.Not her son.
