My daughter graduated and two days later I watched her get on a van to head off to her new future. The hardest part for me is the lack of communication(oh I know why). But this is what she wanted and in a while I will adjust.

Yes I am a new Navy dad and this is the best site for information.

You are more than welcome here - but . . . Do you know there is a navydads.com? Click Here
I think its the hardest part to watch them walk away, everytime my sailor comes home and I have to take her to the airport to return to duty, its the hardest part of all of this. As time goes on she will have more time to talk to you and email and call you. I have gotten an email at least 3x a day this week and last week and she is out to sea. They find a way to talk to you, but she will have to get settled in A school, and see how things are done, dont worry Dad, all is good, hope you get an email soon. Oh, they can use the computers in their barracks, they buy blocks of time to get on line. Its fairly easy for them, and they dont need their own computers. Once she get settled she can givr you her address and you can send her cell phone and anything else she may need. Believe me she will let you know!
Thanks for the reply. And the part that made me laugh, "Believe me she will let you know!" Thanks again
Congratulations Keith, we all feel your pain!
Wow-----I am sure that was hard! My son is 25 and took some time with school, jobs, etc....but now wants to pursue larger goals for his life. It is hard for me. We are driving him today to his city of departure and will see him off tomorrow after MEPS. We want to watch his swearing in tomorrow. Gee......emotional roller coaster ride for me! I am excited for him though! I am actively accomplishing embracing Navy thoughts!!
Hi Lucy, My son took his time joining also. I think he's much more ready to handle boot camp now. If he had joined at 18, I'm not sure the Navy would have gotten the strong, confident man they have now. He's embraced boot camp wholeheartedly and is currently in the Honor Guard and loving it. Glad he waited to do this! Our PIR is 7/9/10.
I will have to remember that last quote.
Keith, I too understand. My son will leave for boot camp on August 3rd. I am trying really hard not to think about him leaving. He is such a funny guy and he is my laughter. I do not know what I will do without him dropping in just to watch a movie or hang out with me. My son waited a while. He always said he was going to join but would do it when he was ready. He just turned 21. I know he will do great as will your daughter, but oh how I will miss him.
I understand how you feel as well. My 19 year old son Daniel is leaving for bootcamp this Tuesday, 6/8. I am a mixed-bag of emotions. Happy, sad and with a constant stomach and headache. It is his decision and he is very, very happy. I am not at all worried, just sad that I will not be seeing his beautiful face, every day, ever again! That is quite a reality check!
LeonaLibby, my son is leaving also on 6/8. He is 19 also. He is also excited and ready to go, has been on Delayed entry since last June. I am crying already at the thought of missing him and not talking to him, he always calls or texts me during the day, so it is a big adjustment as well for myself. Hang in there, we are in it together.
My son left 6/8/10. I just received my first two letters 6/24/10. I cried like a baby!!! I think he's just overhelmed with whats going on with boot camp right now. He did write some humorus things though, so I felt a little better.
Quite the reality check it is. My son left on 6'9 and boy oh boy I feel the pain. It is the fact that you cannot see them on the daily basis that you used to. Even though I am so proud of the decision that he made and I know that I have to let go and let him make the decision that is right for his life It hurts letting them go. My son is the joker of the family and I miss him so. I know eventually I will be able to deal with it a little better. I thank God so much for the support I have received from this site. I am looking forward to when I will be able to help someone else who is at the point where I am right now We must all be helpers one to another I didn't know there was a navydad.com Thanks I can now tell my husband that there IS a place for him as well I think that he was getting a little jealous LOL It is nice that you do welcome dads here as well
