My fiance and I want to get married July 31st.  He has to fill out a chit because he is still in a-school and he is going out of the 200 mile radius to come home for the weekend.  He will be in phase 3 by then and we are hoping the chit gets approved. BUT: He hasnt filled it out yet and to me it would make sense if he filled it out asap. But he is saying that he is gonna wait till the end of this month because he doesnt want it to get denied. This doesn't make any sense to me. I think he should give them as much notice as possible. ADVICE!? When is the best time to fill out a chit and is there anyway to better the chances of getting it approved?? HELP PLEASE THANKS!!

Emma,
I was hoping for information on leave and filling out chits. If you have a problem with what I post then please don't respond. Not that it is any of YOUR business, but we are not fighting about it, just discussing the best way to go about things and HE IS THE ONE WHO ASKED ME TO POST THIS because sometimes people have good adivce and information on this site that HE doenst always know the answer too...So before you go saying rude things to people you don't even know, you shouldn't assume you know what is going on. NOT ONCE did I say that we were FIGHTING.
Anyways, N4M's is not a bashing session. It is a support group.

p.s. god bless you sailor.
There is a time frame for chits, usually around four to two weeks. Too early and they'll just hand it back to the sailor. He's right, waiting until the end of June is correct.

I thought the radius was 300 miles. If it is 200, that would be very good to know! Which A school?
I am pretty sure tha it is a 200 mile radius, I could be wrong. He is in Pensacola. Thanks for the info on that. He wasn't positive and of course I only know what he tells me or ppl on n4ms say. He has been so busy the past few weeks at a-school that he hasn't had the chance to ask anyone. I was hoping they could turn it in a little earlier because we are planning the wedding on such short notice but I guess not. Do you know how long it takes to get them approved?
Thanks. I told him he should ask someone. The only person I KNOW he talked to was a yoemen....So yeah...hopefully it will all be done right and approved. :)
My son recently flew home over Memorial Day weekend. He had to fill out a Chit because he was also outside the 300 mile radius. He waited until the day before he left to hand his in. He assured me that Cheif had already told him he would sign it but it also had to go through the 1st Class Petty Officer first. I was getting very nervous since I had already bought his plane ticket.
Could anyone tell me. Is there a military discount when flying home. My son wants to come to NY from Fla for the 4th but by the time he gets permission the airfare will be through the roof. Thanks
Southwest Airlines has the best rates especially if you book the flight well in advance. I checked every Airline for military discounts.....no such thing. The only thing about Southwest though is that they don't fly out of P'cola.. Micah had to get a ride to Panama Beach.
There is no military discount worth having. Some airlines advertise one but then it turns out to be no better than regular fare.
