I just wanted to start a discussion for the friends and family of the OCS 17-10 Class.  I am wondering what others know about their schedule, whether anyone has heard from their LO and if not, when you think we might hear, either by phone or mail.

I sent two letters last week but haven't heard back yet. Not sure when phone calls start... I've been thinking a month just so I don't get my hopes up!
Hi my boyfriend is in class 17-10. He was able to call his mom the Sunday that he arrived but we haven't heard from him since. Have you heard from your LO yet?
I searched and searched, but didn't find anything. Not sure that the search function works so well. There is also a facebook group for 17-10 (http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=111971548842149). It seems like a lot of the recent classes are using facebook, so that may be where we will find more people. I haven't heard from my son since the Sunday he started, but I have been writing everyday. It looks like it may be 2 or more weeks until we get phone calls, based on posts on the 16-10 facebook group.
I joined the Facebook group before my husband left so that we could see if there was any information. No info on there. The members of the group are all people who are in the class. I'm expecting that we should get letters starting this week and phone calls after three or four. My husband went through enlisted boot camp 10 years ago so I'm kind of going by how things went then. If anyone gets a letter or a phone call, please post!
Well it turns out there are two facebook groups... one for OCS classmates and one for family and friends. I requested to join the family and friends group so I'll let everyone know if it turns out to be informative :o)
where is the link to the FB family one..i cant find it
The link is:

If that doesn't work, just search facebook for OCS 17-10 and it should come up.
My husband is in OCS Class 17-10. Joined the facebook group a well. I am very excited about findng you all who are going through the same thing I am. Haven't had a phone call or gotten any letters yet so I am hoping by the end of the week I will here something. Hope you all are hanging in there. One week down :-) God Bless
Hi -
My son is in class 16-10 and it took several weeks before we had a phone call which was very short.
They can write letters - every Monday at first, then more later. My son says they don't have email
privileges until about the 6th week - then on Sundays they can respond to any email that is sent to
them during the week (after about week 4 they are assigned an email address with a .mil tag that
they can answer on Sundays, but you will be receiving brief phone calls before then) Things get better
there after about the 4th week - more study, classes, and less physical demands.
I am optimistic - my son has 6 weeks to go and every contact with him is better.
Best of luck to you.
Thanks. We just got a call from our son today that he is now in holding company. He made it through Outpost but then went to medical and was diagnosed with bronchitis. He went back to his room after that and then they came to his room today and said he is in holding company, so he is really confused about what happened. Unfortunately, with it being the weekend, there really isn't even anyone to talk to. It is hard to know what to tell him when it sounds so crazy, but we are doing our best to be supportive.
They are all really homesick, so I suggest to keep everything
light so that you don't make them miss home more....Who
knows what is best in this situation?
They are really being tested.
My son is also in class 17-10. We heard from him last Sunday at 7:00AM.He was very hoarse but sounded good. We have also gotten two letters and the second one was a little more reassuring than the first. I was hoping for a call yesterday on Mother's Day and stayed by the phone all day.
