OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Getting married on PIR weekend
Me and my fiance are trying to get married that weekend in a courthouse, and I read somewhere you have to get permission from your higher commander or Sargent or something? Anyone have any similar experiences? He wants me to be stationed with him firsthand rather than us wait, him get stationed, him come home to marry me, and us get stationed again. Any tips?

Alright, first thing to know is they are told NOT to marry PIR weekend, and sign a page which goes in their service record which states they obey all liberty rules Some couples marry anyway, and while I have not heard of anyone being punished, you both must know he is beginning his A school with breaking one of the rules. His choice.
Second, marrying in Lake County, IL takes two days. Get the license on Friday afternoon, and have the ceremony on Saturday morning, there is no same day marriage. Google Lake county clerk marriage licenses to see the posted rules. If his A school is anywhere other than Great Lakes, marrying is impossible, as the Navy buses them to the airport early in the morning, and he cannot leave the airport and go anywhere. What rating did he sign up for?
Yes, they are supposed to submit a special request chit letting the Chain of Command know they intend to marry. There is supposed to be a class or counseling session they take, which lets them know the benefits for dependents, how to apply for those, and their responsibilities, and a few other things. There's a few other reasons, but none which probably apply to you.
Only A schools over 20 weeks allow student sailors to live off base with their spouses. They must put in a Live Ashore request packet and get it approved. Because he was not married when he signed up, you would not have your move paid for by the Navy to the training command. The reason couples marry during A school is not so much so the sailor can live with a spouse during school, but so the move to the new duty station is paid for. They need to get the dependent paperwork in before the orders are cut too, they won't be amended to include a spouse if they were issued as "unaccompanied".
Again, if you can tell me what rating he signed up for, I'd know the location and length of his school and could tell you what is possible.
The Navy doesn't have Sargents. We have Petty Officers and Chiefs. You'll hear "COC" which is chain of command, which are his bosses.
