Hi everyone! I didn't know if anyone had any advice or suggestions when it came to sending packages overseas. I'm not really sure how the process works...if it gets sent to the base here in the states, sorted and then sent our or what. I ask this because it took 2 months for him to receive my first letter and to date he still hasn't received the package I sent back in August. I've also gotten letters returned with random addresses added on to them (and the US Postal Service said they didn't do it), even though they have the same address as the first letter he did receive. I know letters and packages take time, especially because of where he is, I just didn't know if there was something else that I could do. I'm new to being a military girlfriend and I want to be able to get him thoughts from home as often as I can. I'm counting the days/months till I get to see him again :)

When the label says APO or FPO it goes to the military mail sort. Sometimes the base addy. stays with them, sometimes they get a more convienent addy. when on a base in Afghanistan. My sailors base is in Washington, with a FPO addy of FPO AP, when she goes out on her ship we can ship to either the base addy. or they get a newer one just for the ship that is FPO AE, the Navy should be able to keep track of where that unit is, and either address should work, unless he is IA, then he will have a totally new addy. that belongs to the new group he is with. Have him ask his bunkmates what they are using for a address, see if its what he gave you. Sometimes it takes a while for the mail to catch up with the units.

Hi Kathy! Thanks for the response. He checked the address for me, and what I have is correct. It's an apo-ae address. His family and friends are getting packages too him but for some reason mine are taking longer. He has been coming back after missions to the same fob, so fingers crossed he will get the packages soon. Thank you :)
When my son was IA in afghan his addy started with APO because he was attached to the Army  You need to check what the address is. My sons mail was geting to him in 2 weeks time this includes boxes.
Hi Judy! It is an apo-ae address. I've heard that the smaller the boxes the better so I've been trying to pack the smallest flat rate boxes full of goodies, hopefully he will get them soon. Thank you for the response!

go to www.usps.com you can order military flat rate and the custom form they are then dekuvered to your hoiuse.  they are about 12x12x4 good size   will hold 1 4roll pack of charmin with no filling needed

i know cause mine asked for some..

I'm going to order some of those because everytime I go into the post office it's always so busy. I didn't even think to send toilet paper...he just got running water a few weeks ago. He'd probably be to embarrassed to ask me for it, but I'm going to send it anyway. Any other things you think he may need or want? I've sent two boxes so far, 100 calorie packs of almonds, beef jerky, candy, uno cards, gum, blow pops, skittles. And then a halloween box full of fun stuff and two American Flags for him to fly.

Sounds like you already got it under control  you might add baby wipes and try the dollar store for the theater boxes of candy and remember no pork can go there.  Oh Little Debbbe's work good too and now you can send things with some chocolate but not a lot it melts to fast.

my son loved getting tp while deloyed on a ship.  although, I never sent it.  a total stranger did and Ben said that was one of the best things he got.  he also loved baby wipes.

I've been mailing packages for over 3 years and lots of them with Heads at Ease.  It's hard to figure out how things are done.

BUT, one thing we learned the hard way is the address.  We mailed over 800 pcs to the 20th EN BN in the summer of 2010.  Some got there right away, others were returned or lost.  We had left off the 20th EN BN part of the address, but had the unit number.  My son's friend was IA in the postal system over there and he said they still should get there, but many times they are kicked back while still in the states at the NY warehouse.

So really double check the address.  It could be something small that you are missing in it.

Always use the flat rate boxes and LOTS of tape!  haha.  tape all the seams shut.  My 1st box to my sailor was stolen from.  I was so bummed, but that also gave birth to Heads at Ease.

I also tracked my packages on a calender.  I noted when I mailed and when received so I could keep track of them.

You are so right Sue the address must be exact and I have found the new custom forms do help with that.
