Hello,

First time poster, but been on site reading for quite a while due to DEP taking a long time. My son has been living out of the house for 2 + years, so I'm not having the same separation issues that a lot of people have here. That being said, I got to spend a lot of time with him late summer, so I do miss him, and keep thinking "what is he doing right now", and missing the daily texts.  My sailor flew out on Monday and I received "the box" today (Thursday). Very excited, thought it would be sad, but it was interesting to see what was in it. He went and bought new socks and boxers the night before shipping out....probably good. His watch was sent back but he got to keep his wallet with ID and debit card. Everything else from the wallet was sent home. Now looking forward to receiving the letter with PIR date. Wow it's been almost one year since he started the process. I hope he'll do well and stay safe and healthy. Good luck to all of your sailors! :)

This is very interesting, my son shipped out yesterday, 10/5, so its most helpful.  It has been a 6+ month DEP process for us, which seemed like a long time!  He has been living with us for the last 18 months, so I will miss the daily texts and "are you home for dinner tonight" calls.  I am super proud of him!  Best of luck to your sailor as well!

Got text from my son's girlfriend. She got a brief call and he's doing good and will get to write letters on Sunday. Not sure if this means that the form letter hasn't been sent yet (10 days after arrival). Argh, can't wait to get that date.
