I saw it mentioned on TV. I don't remember if it was a news program or what. How wonderful it would have been to have found something like this when my kids were in boot camp or newly deployed. Still, I'm happy to find it almost 9 years later. I have to give you moms credit. You are a lot more involved than I was able to be. It was so frustrating to want more involvement and only to be able to write letters or e-mails. And seldom were my questions ever answered.
Hi Kathy,
I know what you mean. When my daughter joined the Navy and my son joined the Army, there were no support groups I was aware of. This was in the early 90s. Later on, more support groups formed, and they were very helpful. My daughter actually told me about this group. BTW, I also have a Blue Star Banner with two stars. It has been hanging in my window since 9/11.

Hi Sue, Congrats on your family. How does the Navy compare to the Army? Do you have another avenue to follow the Army with? Are they both in for life? Things must have been really scary for you when 9/11 happened. They sure were for me. Please thank both your kids for me.
Sue,
Where can you get the blue star banner? My son is finishing his A school and would love to have one for my window.
Barb K.
Hi Kathy, Barb and everyone else,
I've gotten my blue star banner from www.serviceflags.com. They have lots of military support items. They are wonderful people.

Both my kids are lifers. If I recall, they both joined at the approximately same time. I used to get a kick out of Jeff saluting Lisa. She went in as an officer, and Jeff was enlisted. Jeff returned to the civilian world, but Lisa was in in for the long haul. Around 9/11, Jeff reenlisted and has since decided to make the army his career. I found army yahoo groups and the Blue Star Mothers of America, and have gotten a lot of support from them.

Jan and Sue,
Thank you so much for the info on the blue star banner. I am going to go online today and order my banner today!
Thanks! :0)

The folks at www.serviceflags.com are awesome. I needed yellow ribbons for my house in a hurry when my son was coming home. They personalize them. They made them and shipped them in one day. The folks there are awesome and have a heart for our military.
TV ad.
I found it using http://www.nstc.navy.mil/rtcgl/ which I learned about in the Graduation packet.
My son sent this web site to me. He is currently staioned onboard the USS Nashville.
I found your link on the Navy site... I wish all the recuiting offices that deal with us mothers would tell people about it ahead of time. I was a wreck the first two weeks before he left and this would have helped me immensly!! Thanks for being here!!
