My husband leaves for BC on July 1st. His recruiter previously told him we would get an extra allowance for our bills. But now he is saying I'm on my own for bills once he's gone. So now idk what is true and what isn't. Could someone please tell me the actual answer? Thank you so much.

Yes and no.  You will get BAH (housing allowance) but that takes a few pay cycles to kick in. It will be backdated to the day he joined.  There will also be family separation pay after 30 days.   It can take four to eight weeks to see the BAH begin.

The first few paychecks are quite small, so try to save up a little to see you through the first 30 days.  He will pay for "incidentals" which can reduce the initial pay a great deal.  Things like toilettries and running shoes and PT gear.   But after a month or so, it will all even out.  Also, you two must be sure he has his pay going into an account you can access.  Don't  forget that military pay is taxed, so his base pay will be less than what you see on the pay charts.

Pay is on the 1st and 15th working day each month, the day before if it is a weekend/holiday.  You have to take his in processing days into account when figuring out when you'll first start seeing deposits, it takes a week or two just to get him into the system.  So that first month you will need some savings set aside to get you through.

Also keep in mind if he opens a checking out while at bootcamp you may not have access to it.  Recommend if you have a joint account that he take a deposit slip with him for that checking account so that the pay will go in there, and you can pay bills with it.

As Anti M said, his first pay check will be small.  Odds are he won't get paid until Aug 1st if he goes in July 1st.

Okay thank you so much! He has already opened an account with navy federal but my name isn't on the account ill have to go fix that.

When Will the Recruits be Paid? and Information for Spouses within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will have some important information for you.

You may wish to join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in July.  You will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. I also suggest you join Girlfriends, Fiances, and Wives of Sailors, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and New Members Stop Here and check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.
