Is There a PIR Overflow Plan for Guest Not On "The List"?

If anyone has information on this, I would greatly appreciate it.

I heard a rumor that the base Chapel would have a live feed of the ceremony set up for visitors not able to attend the ceremony, but I haven't seen anything "official" on that.

I tried to do a search for info on the Forums/Groups but only found outdated info from 2011.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!!

No there is not anything official on that...

If they are not on the list they are not getting on the base.  They can stay at the hotel and watch in on their computer, or if staying at the Navy Lodge, they do stream it in their lounge area.

As of January 1st, 2013 Recruit Training Command will enforce the following policy:

ALL GUESTS, including Active Duty/Retired Military Personnel and those ages 3 and older must be on the access list. Children 2 and under do not need to be on the access list.

12 or less divisions within the training group: FOUR guest maximum per recruit.

13 or more divisions within the training group: THREE guest maximum per recruit.

Individuals not on the access list will NOT be able to enter the drill hall and we do NOT have a standby list. In addition please plan on arriving at least 1.5 hours before the ceremony, which begins promptly at 9:00 a.m.

Actually, those not on the Access List can get onto the RTC if they have appropriate ID, but they will not get past the Visitors Center and will be asked to return to their vehicles and/or to leave the RTC. The names are checked at the Visitors Center, not at the Gate. As you indicated, those not on the Access list should stay at the hotel and watch the Live Stream at http://www.livestream.com/usnavyrtc or http://navylive.dodlive.mil/.

I know they can get on the base..but it is best for people to just stay in the hotel...we both know telling some people they can get on the base just 'causes issues.  I have seen first hand more times than I can count upset families trying to get in the drill hall.  They think they are special and should be an exception to the rule.

That is why I posted they can not get on the base...all it does when extra people get on the base is cause issues.  I have even seen people taken away in handcuffs for the "issues" they have caused

I understand.

I understand.

This is really sad. This system is not efficient. There are recruits who don't have anyone coming (unfortunately) and there are recruits who possibly have a wife and three children over age 3. What are they supposed to do? How are they supposed to decide?

Thanks for the info and clarification, but what would really help is if someone could suggest a better option to the RTC.

I have ideas if someone could point me in the right direction to offer a solution...

Thanks again.

The RTC is aware that there will be some who have no one coming and others who have more than the number allowed who want to attend. The RTC also has to consider the fire code and the numbers that are acceptable when allowing people to enter the Drill Hall. I don't think there will ever be a system that will make everyone happy. Things that were allowed in the past have been shown to be a breach of OPSEC and PERSEC and resulted in a fire code issue and/or people being turned away at times (sometimes even some who were on the Access List). The RTC had to come up with a system that would work within the constraints that they have. If you think you have a workable solution, you can always email the PAO.

Most of the time the wife and 3 children would all get in--just no other loved ones for that Sailor. It's just when there is a large TG, that one of the children would have to wait at the hotel with another adult. There are usually only about 6 TG's a year that have 13 or more divisions so that only 3 guests are allowed. The rest of the time they can have 4 guests.

Thanks for the info, lemonelephant. Understanding the background to the issue helps.

You are very welcome.

John, thanks for your reply, but in my original post I was hoping to get helpful information. I understand everyone has their own opinion.

They might have a waiver on the dependents.

It happens, although rarely. I am aware of a Nuke with twin boys and a daughter. They were 3 and 5, I think, at their daddy's PIR. I didn't say that anything should be changed.

They used to have a waiting area for those with large families they could "try" to get in..but that stopped due to issues with people who didn't get in after they waited for hours.

RTC needs something that can be somewhat fair to everyone, and use the least amount of man power to handle the people going into PIR.

People should just be thankful they are even allowed to get on the base to see PIR, or just see it on the live stream.  RTC does not have to 1) even have a PIR that is open to family 2) live stream 3) even give the new Sailors liberty after PIR.

They are in the military now, it is up to the recruit to decide who is allowed into their PIR
