OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Today is my son's last day before he leaves for MEPS. We had a wonderful bbq and gathering of friends and family last night including a bon voyage bon fire. My son will ship out on January 7th from CA to Chicago. Today is going to be a hard day. Hanging at home and watching football! Couldn't ask for a better day!

Make the most of the time together!

Also, double-check Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC to be sure you have covered everything.

Check your My Page.

Ok. I took care of my name showing in the URL. Thank you.

Yes, you did, but you didn't address the privacy issue.

My son leaves on the 16th and I am so sad. I don't even know when the first time I can talk to him is. Does anybody know where I can go to get that kind of information

Start with the info I left for you on your My Page, including joining the groups. Then begin reading the Pages in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) beginning with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and read 1 or 2 pages a day and then go back to them as you need the info.

I'm pretty new to this site myself Lisa but I think he will have a chance to call you after they arrive late at night and then probably again in a week or 2! We were able to get a lot of good information from his recruiter.

That call at week 2 may be before or after that. See Phone Cards and Phone Calls for more on that. If you have a good recruiter, s/he will be a good resource, but many provide outdated information about what happens at the RTC so be sure to go by what you find in the RTC's sites (https://www.facebook.com/NavyRecruitTrainingCommand and http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/index.asp). We try to stay up-to-date on this site and the info in the Pages of Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and of your PIR group should reflect current practices at the RTC.

Joining DEP-Leavin' for Boot Camp in January and Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and later your PIR group will provide both information and support.

Check your My Page. There are changes you still need to make.

We are heading to the recruiters office as we speak! I am so confident my son will be successful in everything he wants to do. As we drive I wonder what goes through his mind. Seeing the landscape, cows in pastures, mountain ranges that he has grown up watching! Looking around the house o e last time not for sure when he will be back! God speed my son! See you tomorrow when you take your oath!

Hello proudnavymom! I will be in your shoes in less than thirty days!  So many feelings! Best of luck to your son and your family.

Good luck to your SR's!
