I have been in touch with several of my military contacts and have heard back from a couple.

group 1: forward medical unit in the Afghanistan.   200:  25 sailors, 175 Marines. 15 female.

3-10-10 update - I will mail the balance of 20 on 3-11-10.  thanks for your help!

group 2:  This batch of whatever number we send is going to Afghanistan also.  Dawn is a civilian employee who is retired Air Force.  This is what she said today:

Did you want the address of a unit or did you want to send them to me to distribute to the female soilders?  Unfortunately there are no all female units.  I will be heading out to some smaller forward operating bases (FOBs) on the front lines once a month and think the pillow cases would make more of an impact there as little luxuries are non-exixtant.  Whichever you prefer.  Also, if you have any bakers...they love fresh baked goods!

So mailing to her is the way to go for a personal delivery. Just general ones for now, as I don't know what services she will visit as yet.   I know many of you just mailed, but if you want to send some to this group, email me for the address.

Ally, they all look great! I've got the gecko fabric too and love it. the medical is awesome. where did you get that print. love your hearts. I'm glad you all are doing that, afraid that I haven't kept that up. I use snow peeps all year round.

and Kim what a great additon you made to the pcs. they'll love it. 180 have been mailed as of today. I need to contact the one other person to see if she got them mailed,
I am mailing some to Dawn tomorrow. And next week when I bake for my son's friend deployed on the Ike, I will bake for her units too. Very exciting! I love to bake, just don't need to eat it all. haha.

and of course, Dori and Maryellen are working in their units. So March will be a full month. Thanks ladies.
Alas, there was only 1 yard of that mdeical print, but it was extra wide, so I got 3 cases from it.
I think it was intended for people to make nurses tops out of....or pillowcases!!
I've got a lot of generic pcs in my stash so I can send at least 10. Please send me her address.
Sue, when do they need to go? I can make some more but I won't be able to work on them until the weekend. Darn work isn't making my pillowcase projects come together fast enough! I will gladly send some if I have a little time (week) to work on them. Fresh baked goodies!!!! Yea!!!!! The last time I sent cookies to my sailor they were crumbs but I can sure make a mean rice krispy treat! If someone has a great way to send cookies let me know cuz I would love to send some!
Sue,
I can send 10 generic pcs.
In the next week or 2 will be fine. Kim, I will email you how I do cookies. I sent that to Cathy earlier. other than the moldy peach muffins, which is what promoted me to start Heads at Ease in 2008, I've had great success in mailing baked goods.

Tamara, that is great and I'll email you both the address. I am excited that she will deliver them personally.

thanks ladies.
Sue, Would you mind emailing me on how to do the cookies also? Thank you.
and the address too. sorry have been packing pcs all morning.
Here is what I mailed yesterday. Tried to post last night, but just couldn't stay at the computer:
These went to Major Beth's medical unit:

these went to our new contact Dawn for the FOBs. I added a few more things once packed: lip balms, etc. all female this time, that was fun to do.

these went to the son of a couple at my church. He is imedded with the Iraquis. His mom bought the snacks.

and last, the heart one went to Tina, who makes all of those cool cards for the troops. She gave me the original heart logo for HAE and she just had cancer surgery on her nose. The other went to a sailor on a ship who is having a few sleep issues and his mom asked if I would send him one. She approved the scuba sharks. haha

Sue, Those are very nice.
I mailed the box off to Dawn this afternoon. 10 pillowcases, 10 bottle of shampoo +10 bottles of conditioner, 20 mints and a box of cookies. OK, so I bought the cookies. I didn't want to poison anyone.LOL
Sue,
I've been sewing, so I need to do a new count. I'll send that off to you tomorrow. Are we going to continue to send pcs to Dawn or was this a one time shipment?
