I have been in touch with several of my military contacts and have heard back from a couple.

group 1: forward medical unit in the Afghanistan.   200:  25 sailors, 175 Marines. 15 female.

3-10-10 update - I will mail the balance of 20 on 3-11-10.  thanks for your help!

group 2:  This batch of whatever number we send is going to Afghanistan also.  Dawn is a civilian employee who is retired Air Force.  This is what she said today:

Did you want the address of a unit or did you want to send them to me to distribute to the female soilders?  Unfortunately there are no all female units.  I will be heading out to some smaller forward operating bases (FOBs) on the front lines once a month and think the pillow cases would make more of an impact there as little luxuries are non-exixtant.  Whichever you prefer.  Also, if you have any bakers...they love fresh baked goods!

So mailing to her is the way to go for a personal delivery. Just general ones for now, as I don't know what services she will visit as yet.   I know many of you just mailed, but if you want to send some to this group, email me for the address.

Well, they did not put up the link to my email. They said where to go, but its not there. I have sent an email to the girl that did my interview to ask about it. Hopefully they will can fix it. A girl I went to high school with saw it and her mother is in a few sewing groups and has lots of material. So she may donate cases and fabric!!
that's wonderful. they didn't put my email in the interview either. But the good news is, if someone is really interested, they will search you out. Got 1 guy last summer cause he contacted the station.

maybe they feel it's a liablity and safety thing to put up our email addresses.
Your right Sue...guess I dont want a buncha freaky people in my inbox....hehe
Check this one out! nothing like getting a "big" head haha. the cookies were cornflake ones.

Your amazing cookies, pumkin bread, and pillowcases arrived today!! The cookies were a huge hit in my office and if you don't mind we'd all like the receipe!

We have a Lieutenant Colonel from the Czech Republic in our office that went ga ga over the pumpkin bread! It arrived so fresh and moist and delicious!! It's all gone already. They lasted maybe 2 hours. Ha Ha

Between all the pillowcases and Joe's supplies for the troops I have 4 boxes of goodies to hand out. Pictures soon to follow! I wish I was there to give you a big bear hug for all you have done! You are truely an amzing woman! Thank you!

Dawn

I told her that her emails were a hug to me every time. This one made me cry. I make my pumpkin bread with fresh pumpkins that I steam. I still have one left.
That's super that your cookies were a hit. That Lieutenant Colonel knows a good thing when he eats it. haha I'm so glad that they are getting such a kick out of all this. Good job Sue!
These were the pillowcases that I mailed to Dawn with the bread and cookies. As I am looking at this, I realize "again" that I didn't make any of them. BUT, there are 2 made that I cut out with the intent to sew, but passed on to a local crew member. Does that count? I miss sewing, but have been too busy to get much done.

thanks Kim. the heart idea was mine about a year ago and I am afraid that I haven't kept up with it. I think most draw them with apermanent marker.
yeah, I think it's a safety issue. about 2 weeks ago, I got hundreds of really crazy emails. don't know what caused it, but it was annoying, some in a different language. They'll seek you out if they are serious Dawn. It was so much fun to see you!
Here are the ones that went to Dawn.

just love the combos. went to Joann's yesterday and I really have a hard time there!
Those are great Kim!
so glad I checked this thread before going outside! those thank you s and picture are so touching and make you feel so good inside to be a part of this project. Thank you, Sue. never made cornflake cookies, can you pm me the recipe? thanks. always looking for something to add to packages that they will truly enjoy at the other end.
