OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

My daughter is being discharged from bootcamp due to a catarac's the doctor's knew about at MEPS
My daughter had been at boot camp for a week Tuesday when she called and said she was being discharged due to her cataract in her eye. Its a medical discharge. The Doctors at MEPS knew about her cataract and said it was not bad enough to disqualify her. I spoke to her eye doctor who was surprised they think it’s bad enough to kick her out. The doctors at boot camp told her she could not rejoin even if she has it fixed, it’s a simple 10 minute procedure and completely healed in 10 weeks. I called her recruiter who said she should be able to rejoin and he called MEPS and they said she should be able to rejoin. I feel so bad for her because she had been planning on this for the last year, quit her job, prepared for it physically. She said she hated book camp so far but was handling it fine. I was only able to talk to her for 20 minutes and she said she could call everyday. That was 2 days ago and I have not heard from her since. She said they put all the people who quit boot camp or get discharged for medical in the psyche ward and she was with patients who are mentally disturbed. I don’t know who to go to get answers.

Unless she had a mental break down she wouldn't be in the psych ward. People who are being seperate are sent to Ship 5, if you go to groups and put in Ship 5 you will find a group of other people who have gone though what you are going though. There is also some numbers on the top of that page that you can call. Understand no one can give you any information unless your daughter signs paper work saying they can talk to you.

NO, she has a cataract, and they are discharging her, she said its way worse then boot cmap, dotn egt it, she dosent want to quit, they are making her. I found this on another site Angie and her recruiter said thats where they send all people who get discharged from boot camp:.

Hi lolly! Do u know where your daughter is right now? My sister broke her leg a month ago 10days prior to her graduation. She is so upset disappointed and devastated.
She's in RCU right now recovering, she said there's nothing to do there and very depressing...

lolly - Your daughter shouldn't had been able to ship. Having a catarac is a DQ. It written in the NAVMEN P-117 manual. Look at para 15-34 which is for Eyes, which is located on page 31.

Don't get your hopes up of ever getting this waived, even if she has it fixed. I don't beleive she can. However, there are other ways she can serve her country. Be a policeman, fireman, or even a civilian contractor that works with the military. All of these jobs are great needed by our country.
Lastly, the reason the Navy will not fix her is they then become liable for the diability benefits. Once she completes her 4 years active duty she can ask for a disablily payment since this was "fix" while she was active duty. That can run into the $Millions since it's a life time benefit. Sadly, it is easier for the Navy to just discharge her, since this was a pre-existing condition.
Just wanted to help you understand what the facts were, and to give you an idea why the Navy is doing what it's doing. God bless your daughter.
