Today has been so hard. I have tried to hide my feelings, but I can't stop the overwhelming feelings. My son decided a long time ago this was his career choice. I have store by him and provided support and encouragement. I truly do want him to be happy. But today, I can't stop the tears. I have one week left with him and I am trying to be strong. I keep thinking how much this will change our family. I worry about his younger siblings and how this will affect them. They are 8 and 9 years younger and love their big brother so much. I know I need to stay strong and refrain from crying especially when he leaves. But I do not know how I can prevent this. I feel like I am on an emotional roller coaster. What is the best way to get through this? How do you let them go? How do you say goodbye. The thought of no communication for 3 weeks is hard. One last question....how many weeks do you count out on the calendar to plan for graduation....I have heard various things. I was told 9 weeks (one week of processing and 8 weeks of actual boot camp. But I also heard 7 to 9. My husband has to plan
His vacation out as soon as possible to get approved. Thanks and I am so glad I found this forum because I need lots of support to get through this.

Oh my son is going to Pensecola for A-School.  I just joined that board.  He is Aviation Structural Mechanic.

Thank you Cheryl for the hug!  They are all needed.  I am so glad to meet someone who has a child leaving the same day.  We will have to stay connected for sure.  I am going to join the July board next.  My son's job is Aviation Structural Mechanic (safety).  His A-school is in Pensecola.  Can you visit them at A-School?  If so, I will be there!  I already live in Florida and know the directions to Pensecola.  Maybe we can drive up for the holidays as well.

This site is amazing!  The level of support is wonderful.  Up until yesterday, I felt all alone.  My husband is a great man but he is trying to be strong and not talk about it much.  I know he knows I am so broken over this.  I will be so happy to just get to the PIR date!  At least then, the lines of commincation are opened back up.

I know we will all break down when we are leaving MEPS next Tuesday.  But I think I will get through it with the support on this board.  Keep in touch.  We will count down together! Navy Mom hugs to you as well.

My son leaves on the 23rd as well. Your post hit home for me. I have been on this site almost everyday but this is the first time I have been compelled to reply to anything. I feel exactly the same way you do. My husband thinks I'm a little crazy as we are both so proud . He doesn't quite get the tears.
My son will be in Pensacola for A school also. Sounds like we have some common ground. We have been told we can go visit him in Florida.

I see that your future Sailor will go to “A” School for Cryptologic Technician Networks (CTN) since you have joined CTN; you may also want to join, or at least check out, cryptology at pensacola moms, Cryptology ~ CTI ~ CTM ~ CTN ~ CTR ~ CTT ~, Sailors at Corry Station holding or in school, and Sailors In Pensacola, FL For A School....Corry Station too!!. The Rating Information Card for CTN can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/ctn.pdf. Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend once you get the form letter. Since CTN is one of the Spook ratings, the information within the Page, OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes To Your Profile), will be important for you.

Thank you. My son actually changed his rating to IT-ATF but I will definitely check on all those links. My son and husband make fun of me for spending some much time on here but I have learned so much and helped my son get ready for his new adventure.

Here is the info for Information System Technician (IT); join, or at least check out, Corry Station IT Moms. IT A Schoolers, INFORMATION SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN - IT, ITOF, IT-ATF, ITS, Sailors at Corry Station holding or in school and Sailors In Pensacola, FL For A School....Corry Station too!!. The Rating Information Card for IT can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/it.pdf. Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend. IT is also one of the Spook ratings, so the information within the Page, OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes To Your Profile), will be important for you.

Cacling....I am so glad you reached out. This site has really helped me in the last few days. I am full of so many emotions....sadness, proudness, scared, worried, lonely, heartbroken....I could go on and on. I don't think anyone could understand the tears of a mom. In no way do I want to discourage his dreams. I just want to know he will be safe, happy, and have no regrets. We can go through this together.
Have you joined the DEP leaving in July board? I did so I could connect with those with the same ship date. I have heard you can visit in A school too. We plan to since we are in FL already. Especially since it will be during the holidays. Keep in touch and hang on....it has to get better soon.

Yes, you will be able to visit him there. It is usually best to wait a few weeks. He will tell you the best time for a visit once he is there and has been through INDOC.

Michelle....I know EXACTLY how you are feeling.  So many conflicting emotions.  I am so excited for him and so proud of him and can't wait for this amazing journey to begin but at the same time I am so sad and nervous for him to leave.  No one else really gets it except other moms.  I joined the Dep leaving in July board also.  I am so glad to connect with someone else.  My son's best friend has joined as well and will start boot camp two weeks after so I have been talking to his mom but it will be nice to have someone that is in the same place in this process.  We live in NM but I work for an airline so we can fly for free and plan several trips to Pensacola to visit.

We had the last meeting with the recruiters tonight and I already knew most of the information thanks to N4M.  Hang in there and enjoy this last week.

My son leaves 7/23 also.. I am so full of emotii right now. I wake up every night thinking about it. I can't imagine not being able to talk to him. To see how his day is going. These next few days are going to be intense. I do have a question, do they need a pre paid calling card to make calls home?
They can get one there but I sent one with my son in his wallet. He'd never used one before so we went through that as well. They only get so much time when they can call I didn't want his time to used trying to figure it out lol. Good luck to you and your son!! My son graduated boot camp in oct and is now in Japan. Ask anything you need to ask. :0)
