My younger son and I got to watch his older brother swear in at MEPS this morning.  What a wonderful experience it was. I am beaming with joy and tears at the same time while awaiting his phone call sometime tonight. I can't wait to hear his voice!

I'm glad you could be there for that and in about 8 weeks you will feel that and more as you see your new Sailor at PIR.

You may want to check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvKAhmgkoj4 and http://www.navydep.com/forums/showthread.php?t=433. They will give you an idea of what is happening.

You can check in DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in September to see if there are others with loved ones who left today.

I see you have joined Boot Camp Mom's; you may also want to join, or at least check out, PIR Reference Information and New Members Stop Here. Once you know his PIR date and/or division number, watch in Boot Camp Mom's and/or at http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date and join the group for that.

Thank you for the info!

You are so welcome.

Bayoukat,

My husband left yesterday as well, I just got a call from him on someone's cell phone. They're on the way to the airport! I too am waiting on pins and needles for my phone call tonight, but that quick hello right now put me at ease.  Best of luck you your future sailor!

Good luck to you and your family as well! I actually heard from my child last night on someone else's cell phone too shortly before 10pm! He had made it to Chicago and was in the airport. I can't wait to hear from him again.

So glad you heard from your son as well. Can't wait until we receive more information. Good Luck to you and your sailor. Do you know where son's A School will be?

He is staying in Great Lakes. He's supposed to to be an ETCF I think.

It looks like he is to be an Electronics Technician (ET). probably in the Advanced Electronics Computer Field (AECF); there is also SECF (Submarine Electronics/Computer Field), but you didn't mention subs and that "A" Schoo is at Groton, CT.

These groups may be of interest to you: AECF - FCs and ETs, Great Lakes A School Q&A, and GL A-school moms.  The TSC also has a facebook page (Training-Support-Center-TSC-Great-Lakes Facebook Page).

lemonelephant,

Thanks!

You are very welcome.

Mine is staying in Great LAkes as well. Signed up and an EM. I am glad A School won't be to far away. Not hearing from is harder than I though it would be. We have always been a close family and even when he was a summer counselor he still checked in almost every day.

You will want to check out Engineers, Snipe Moms(enginers), and Snipe Moms as well as the previously mentioned, Great Lakes A School Q&AGL A-school moms and facebook page (Training-Support-Center-TSC-Great-Lakes Facebook Page).
