My younger son and I got to watch his older brother swear in at MEPS this morning.  What a wonderful experience it was. I am beaming with joy and tears at the same time while awaiting his phone call sometime tonight. I can't wait to hear his voice!

No I do not - he is going to be working on the aircraft carriers

If you find out (either from his recruiter or him), let me know and I may be able to steer you to a group for his "A" School and/or rating.

I hope that I can too.  I was thinking of buying a ticket that I could change without a lot of fees.  It is just unfortunate like others, I am scrapping to make it.  I lost my job August 2011, and have not found another one yet.  So to go to this graduation is very hard for me.  But I will get there if I have to walk.

Southwest will allow you to make a change without a fee.  They also have no baggage fees for 2 bags.  Also check flights into all three airlines and see which is less--O'Hare International Airport, Midway International Airport, and Milwaukee County’s General Mitchell International Airport.

r u serious.  I did not know that.  Thanks... He told me that he would be going to A school in Penscola Fl.

Which airport is the closest?  Do you have any suggestions on where to stay?

O’Hare International Airport is located 30 miles from RTC.  Midway International Airport is located 45 miles from RTC.  Milwaukee County’s General Mitchell International Airport is located 50 miles from RTC.  I drove so I don't have any personal experience flying into any of them.  There will be info with the form letter about hotels, but here are some to check on:

The Navy Gateway Inns & Suites is located on the main base, about 1.5 miles from RTC. Only those with military IDs can access the base to stay there.  http://dodlodging.net or 1-877-NavyBed (1-877-628-9233).

The Navy Lodge is located 1.9 miles off base from RTC and guests of graduation are allowed to stay there.  https://reservations.staydod.com/hotelSearch.do?action=View&pro... or 847-689-1485.

There are also hotels in Vernon Hills, Gurnee, and Waukegan.  The Ramada Inn Waukegan hosts a Meet and Greet (some like the place and others do NOT).  We stayed at the Hotel Indigo-Vernon Hills in 2008.  Here are other places that people have mentioned (listed in the order I found them and I added the links for your convenience; I do not recommend or endorse any particular one):  Hampton Inn in Libertyville, Residence Inn Waukegan, Red Carpet Inn in North Chicago, Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham at Wadsworth WaukeganLa Quinta Inn & Suites in Gurnee... That should give you some places to try.

Sarge is retired Army and has been a real blessing for the new Sailors and their families. He provides taxi services and is getting great reviews on here and is a wealth of info about the area. His cell number is 847-212-0246.

Thank you so much.  Do you have any recommendations where I should stay?  I will be by myself.

I know I think BC is going to be the hardest.  Thanks for your support.

You may want to look around the site and see where others have stayed in addition to those I mentioned above.  There have been many discussions on that.

Yeah.. I agree.  i would go to this if I had to walk.  I did a map quest.  I could drive, but not sure that I want to drive from California to Chicago by meyself

Thank you for all of the information.  I did call Southwest and talk to them, regarding the cost of changing a ticket.  I called a few hotels and most of them give a discount for the Naval families.  All in all it will all work out, and we will all be together to celebrate our childrens accomplishment.
